1. North Carolina
Who has announced a desire to leave early: Nobody
Who I think will ultimately leave early: Ty Lawson
Comment: This is clearly based on Tyler Hansbrough and Wayne Ellington returning, along with Danny Green and Deon Thompson. Combine that quartet with an incoming recruiting class featuring Tyler Zeller, Ed Davis and Larry Drew, and Roy Williams should have the preseason No. 1 team, again.

3. Purdue
Who has announced a desire to leave early: Nobody
Who I think will ultimately leave early: Nobody
Comment: Every relevant player from a 25-win team should be back, including E'Twaun Moore, Robbie Hummell and Keaton Grant. Thus, the Big Ten favorites will be Matt Painter's Boilermakers.

10. Michigan State
Who has announced a desire to leave early: Nobody
Who I think will ultimately leave early: Nobody
Comment: Drew Neitzel's storied career is complete. But Tom Izzo should remain in good shape as long as Raymar Morgan returns, and the addition of freshman Delvon Roe will provide the star power to compete for another Final Four.

18. Ohio State
Who has announced a desire to leave early: Nobody
Who I think will ultimately leave early: Kosta Koufos
Comment: Jamar Butler and Othello Hunter are gone, and Koufos is expected to follow them. That's unfortunate. But the Buckeyes will be talented either way thanks to the additions of incoming freshmen B.J. Mullens and Anthony Crater.

23. Wisconsin
Who has announced a desire to leave early: Nobody
Who I think will ultimately leave early: Nobody
Comment: I made a promise to myself at some point during this past season that I'd never start a Bo Ryan-coached team any worse than No. 23 in any preseason rankings. So that's why I have Wisconsin at No. 23. It's that simple.

I would say a #18 rating without Kosta in a heartbeat. With him, I think that would put us in the top 10. Purdue being #3 seems a high to me but it really all depends which underclassmen come back for certain teams. I just think it is too early to rank before knowing who might declare early.

WE got mention in this one, but no ranking...Purdue 8th, MSU 22, Wisky 24...

SI Blog

We are mentioned in the top 30...No rankings outside top 10...Purdue 4, and MSU and Wisky get mention as top 30 teams...

Foxsports

This guy really did his homework on MSU, has them at 2...Purdue 7, us 22, Wisky 24,

It is still real early for this as lots of players that are counted on on these lists are not going to be on the teams next year...

But overall I think it is a consensous that if UNC returns all their guys they will be the team to beat...If Tennessee brings back Tyler Smith and with the recent committment from Scotty Hopson I really like them...Like the Gonzaga team...UCLA will drop unless the guys projected to leave come back, but have a good class coming in...Texas will be strong next year, even without Augustine...

With all that said, it is fun to predict...I will add a better write up at some time, after most of the guys have made a decision on what they are doing in terms of the NBA...

Update after draft declarations, it is still up in the air on some to come back or stay in the draft...

He has the first 1-16...

1. UCONN
2. UCLA - still up in the air for a couple to come back or not...
3. UNC
4. Dook
5. Purdue

13. MSU

14. tOSU

Ohio State Buckeyes (--)
What happened in April: On the heels of an NIT championship, freshman center Kosta Koufos declared early for the NBA draft without hiring an agent and it's unclear if he'll return. Incoming center B.J. Mullens, the leader of a monster recruiting class, was bumped up to No. 1 in Rivals.com's final player rankings for the Class of 2008.

Impact: A front line of Koufos (at his more natural power-forward position) and Mullens would be nearly impossible for Big Ten teams to defend, given that none of the other league contenders boasts a single 7-footer. The Buckeyes don't have an elite point guard to replace graduating senior Jamar Butler, though, and that's ultimately what's keeping them behind Purdue and Michigan State in these rankings.

Wisky on the cusp...

Of note the Big 12 is loaded at the top next season...5 teams ranked in the top 12 with 1. UCONN 6. PITT 7. Louisville 10. ND 12. Georgetown, and he also has Nova and Cuse' on the cusp...

I really like this team next year. Butler and Koufos are big time losses but they're more manageable than the previous year's and we have more experience in place than last year. #14 is a fair ranking at this point.

I agree, lots of versatility as well, inside, outside, spread the floor, drive to the hole, zone/man, length, speed, big...

We are gonna be young inside and at the pg, but I think we will be ok...
