All-league, all-CIF and all-state underclass as a sophomore.

Ayles has a nice release off the line of scrimmage and shows soft hands. He will find the soft spot in the defense and make the tough grab over the middle or in traffic. He shows some athleticism and good speed after the catch. Ayles has a good frame and long arms and will have a chance to get bigger and stronger at the next level. He is also a physical blocker.

Was an all-state underclass selection in 2006, helping lead Orange (Calif.) Lutheran to the California Div. II Championship. Had 43 catches for 616 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Had 34 receptions for 417 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore in 2005 for Orange (Calif.) Lutheran.

Interested in Arizona State, Michigan, Ohio State, USC, UCLA, Wisconsin, ND, Miami and Cal.

IMO he is not as explosive as his rating would indicate...Most places have him as the #1 TE in the country and IMO I would put the 3 guys from Ohio ahead of him...If you put Stoney as a TE...

He can catch the ball well, but when pressed with more athletic guys covering him in college will he be as open as he is getting in the clips...

Keep in mind that I have no idea what kind of competition he is matching up against...

This is one of the few guys I disagree with 40 on...I think next to Rudolph, Ayles is the best pure TE in the country, and a close second at that. Stoney is right there though if he is added in. I would be a HUGE fan of offering Ayles if we have a shot.

I have no problem, being wrong and if the staff deems him worthy of an offer, then I would change my position as they know more than me, and I am not saying he isnt top 100 worthy, and with his offer list it is hard to go against that, but I just like the Ohio guys better, maybe b/c they bring more athleticism to the table, and are field stretchers...

I would agree that Stoney is more athletic. I also think that overall, Ayles is more about potential than he is proven talent. His highlight reels don't exactly blow you away but he does show some special ability in certain plays that make me think that he can be a good one. Plus there were some 7 on 7 clips out on him where he looked amazing but I forget where I saw those (maybe Rivals?). Regardless it will be interesting to see if we pursue and it's interesting to see how many top Cali guys are interested in us.

I can't help but think our pursuit of Ayles and Koger (who I think the staff sees on D anyway) is just more proof that they don't plan on using Stoney too much as a TE, but more as a WR. Then again, I think it's a board consensus that we'll just get him on the field however we can and use him to create matchup nightmares.

Ayles must be the real deal though. Haven't seen his film, but his offer sheet obviously speaks for itself.

Do y'all think Blake will be hard to pull out of the West? Wonder if he has any midwestern roots?

Considering none of us have spoken to him yet it's kind of tough to get a read from just a couple of updates (only one of which was done by and OSU site). The fact that he is taking some unofficials in the Midwest this summer at least tells me that he is serious about the possibility. He sounds like he is pretty set on making officials to the five schools listed as well, which again means his interest must be legitimate. If he were just looking for vacations you can bet schools like Florida State, Florida, Alabama or Georgia would be on his list...those are great places to see a game with warm weather practically guaranteed.
