'08 OH RB Darius Ashley (Louisville signee)

I'd be very surprised if he went to another GCL School. There is no love lost between any of them, but especially between X and Moe. Unless the issue is grades, there is no way X would sign off. I don't see Bro. Joe Kamis, former Moe principal, now head of diocesean schools in cincy, approving it. The kid would have to sit at least a year. The kid is fast and tough, but the 4.4 - 4.5 40 is the stuff of fantasy.

IMO if he leaves X he leaves any chance of playing on another state championship team behind.

I'm hoping Moeller was more of an empty threat, but he seemed serious about it. The issue is not exactly grades-he's a very bright kid who's been pulling around a 90% at X which is pretty good considering he's been playing football and running track.

As for X signing off-this is where things get really interesting in my opinion. A junior QB from Moeller, who had been treated poorly by Crable (their coach) and the OC there, quit the team late in the season and then transferred into X. His older brother graduated from X a couple years ago, and after meeting with his family the admissions director and administration at X decided to admit him. Moeller's people signed off on his release and he's been playing on the basketball team at X this year (although not seeing many minutes). He's considered one of the two leading candidates at starting QB for X next year, as he had been undefeated on the freshman and JV levels for Moeller if I recall correctly. Bro. Kamis (if he has any authority here-I'm not sure if he would have considering St. X isn't bound by the archdiocese as most Catholic schools are) signed off on the Morris transfer into X if that was necessary.

I think X would look pretty bad here if they refused to sign off on a transfer of one of their star athletes to Moeller after Moeller allowed a transfer to X. Of course, in that case the well-being of the student was in question, whereas that's not necessarily the case here.

Warren-I believe going to Colerain would require him to move, as I believe he lives in another school district.

Tell that to the guy timing the football teams' 40's prior to the season. I've since verified that it was a 4.5 rather than a 4.4, but it is legit.

I am sorry to hear that Ashley may be leaving X. Not that X is hurting for football talent, but the kid is pretty special. I hope he has good reason to boast about transfering.

I don't see X not signing off on him should he transfer to Moeller. But doesn't Moe have parish limits? The kid doesn't live anywhere near Moeller, does he? I hope he re-thinks what he is planning to do...playing for Bob Crable and getting shafted and mistreated on a regular basis could not possibly be in his best interest.

I wasn't going to post this originally out of respect for Darius' privacy, but now that I've verified that there wasn't any wrongdoing on his part, here it is: Darius was wrongly accused of cheating by a teacher who isn't exactly the most respected one around. Numerous students in the class have backed up Darius' account of the situation, but the teacher is still pushing forward with the normal procedure, wanting to bring him before the academic board, etc. Darius has been happy at X up until this point, and he's discussed transferring to Moeller with a lot of his friends at X. Hopefully this situation will be resolved because, quite frankly, the way it's been handled is a joke based on what I've been told. Athlete or not, he isn't getting a fair shake.

an X poster PM'd me the same story over on Yappi. I hope this works out for Darius. Every time I saw him interviewed last year he appeared to be a classy young man...and I am still irrate over the blown assignment of not covering him out of the backfield!!!!!!!!! :tongue2:

The parish boundaries no longer apply to GCL schools. That rule was abolished while I was still teaching/coaching there, so several years before 2000. A kid can go anywhere: a) if there are openings after all "in district" Catholic students are admitted. b) if there are openings after all out of district Catholic students are admitted. c) if he can get transportation or d)if he can rush for a grand or put the ball in the bucket. I think 'd' is the trump card.
