MAGNACCA TURNS HEADS
Perry junior running back Eric Magnacca began to open the eyes of college recruiters in the summer. He ran consecutive 40-yard times that were under 4.39 at the University of Akron football camp. Then he followed that with an outstanding season in which he gained more than 1,300 yards and lit up Massillon and McKinley?s defenses for just under 400. Ohio State has invited Magnacca to the Michigan game. That should make a strong statement of just how interested the Buckeyes are in Magnacca.

In the article he is listed as 5'11''.

Eric just seems like a one of those kids with speed and versatility that can play any numbers of positions. He might be the type of sleeper type prospect that gets an offer at camp next year due to his ability to play either RB, WR, or DB...

This is just a hunch, but I have a feeling that if the Buckeyes miss out on a couple of the bigger name guys they have already offered that Magnacca will get an offer and be a Buckeye.

Every year there are a few players that Tressel takes that are somewhat "under the radar" or underappreciated by the average fan. Guys like Anderson Russell, Rocco Pentello, Brian Robiskie and Dane Sanzenbacher were all guys that were under the radar recruits after their junior years. What do these guys all have in common? They were all high character guys. They were all intelligent guys who are solid student athletes. They all were productive high school players who their coaches loved. They were all versatile guys. Most of them were also guys who loved the Buckeyes too. And they all showed up and compted at camp.

I think Magnacca is one of those guys that fits the bill. He is smart, versatile, hard working and is a very productive high schooler. He fits the mold of the type of guy Tressel might "reach" for. If he has an impressive camp, I think he gets offered.

As a side note, there are also commonalities between the highly ranked guys who the Buckeyes pass on. They often fall into to one or more of the following categories: Raw high potential/low production guys, academically troubled guys, guys who don't come to camp, and/or guys with questionable work ethic. Names like Lee Tilley, Aaron Brown, Brandon Harrison, and Brandon Braxton all come to mind. That may not bode well for 08 recruits like Zebrie Sanders and Brandon Moore who are still waiting for offers.

Nice post, but not sure if Magnacca would get an offer over a guy like Johnny Adams, or a couple other guys...Also I cannot get over how short his strides are...It just makes him look a little stiff and not sure how well he would be able to cover if brought in as a corner, and we already have the guys to fill the WR and RB positions, and I still think we have a good shot at McCarthy at S.

Also I am not sure that I would group McCarthy or Sanders in that last group...

IMO they are just the product of not being very high on the buckeyes, falling victim to #'s, or not fitting the system...

By Bill Greene...no D1 offers but is hearing from some MAC schools. Will likely have the option of being a preferred walk-on at OSU and if no offers materialize will likely decide between walking on at OSU or at a MAC school.

everytime I saw him play I was really impressed. He is fast as heck and I can't believe he doesn't have a bunch of offers. He's a very sneaky runner with speed.
