The folks over at DJ Woods Commits! - BearcatNews Forums are beyond excited over this turn of events...as they should be...

The Cinti folks shouldn't get too excited. He's committed/decommitted several times so far and will probably announce a different school sometime later this week.

In any case, I'll bet he's kicking himself for not jumping on OSU's offer when he had the chance...

I'll still wish him the best of luck!

I dont think that's the right thing to say in this situation. He decommitted from the schools in which the coaches left. It's not like he grew tired of each school and decided to decommit

From the Cincy site. Woods talks more about his verbal to the Bearcats. He says that he chose Cincinnati because it was somewhere that he could make a serious impact. He also says that coach Kelly and his system were a major factor in his choice.

Strongsville's Woods tells story of commitments

The pictures set atop the living room piano in D.J. Woods' home form a chronology, of sorts, of the youngster's football career.

The snapshots in time begin with him at 5 or 6 years hold, standing in uniform, smiling and cradling a football, then advance through his Pee Wee days as a Vikings standout and culminate with images of deft catches by a high school star.

Space will be made for Woods pictured in a University of Cincinnati uniform. The Strongsville wide receiver will sign a national letter of intent in the high school library today, locking him in to play for the Bearcats on Saturdays. Always intent on being part of the team, he will be with teammates and future college players Mike McCarthy (Naval Academy), Eric Stoyanoff (Princeton) and D.J. Main (Youngstown State).

Someday, room on the piano top may vanish.

"I want to play pro," Woods said with quiet resolve, sitting relaxed in his dining room on Monday. "I want to play pro."

D.J. says he passed on Ohio State because the Buckeyes were considering him as a defensive back, and because he didn't want to "just do what everybody else wants to do."

he may have passed initially for that reason, but if I remember correctly he had renewed interest and came back looking for a spot in our class, and the offer was no longer there.

Woods still remembers the ones that got away
Big East's leading receiver focused on ending run of fumbles

By Bill Koch ? [email protected] ? October 5, 2010

University of Cincinnati wide receiver D.J. Woods leads the Big East Conference in receptions and in receiving yardage, but the statistic that really stands out for him is the number of fumbles he has lost.

The junior from Strongsville, Ohio, has fumbled five times this season and lost four, including two on Sept. 25 that might have prevented the Bearcats from producing a huge upset of then-No. 8 Oklahoma.

"For me, the mistakes are bigger than the yards," Woods said Tuesday. "Right now, I'm leading the Big East in fumbles. That's the biggest number that I need to get over."

That's why Woods has been carrying a football with him everywhere he goes as a reminder of how important it is to take care of the ball.

"I've been practicing for the past week just carrying the ball," Woods said. "I carry the ball to class, carry the ball to my apartment, everywhere I go, just high and tight, high and tight. I'm making a joke out of it, but at the same time I know what needs to be done."
