'08 PA LB Shayne Hale (Pitt signee)

Good to hear. I'm a big fan of Sabino. I'd really love to see him in this class.

Hale is a class act in any case. He is sticky to his loyalty and that has to say something about his person.

It is unfortunate, but that is life.

Hale is going to be a stud wherever he goes.

Let me say this slowly so I am sure I have it.

OSU has cooled on the #25 player in the country - because we don't have a need/room.

Yeah. I got it now.

Hale himself has said he hasn't heard from OSU in while...are you saying he is lying?

The reasons could be many including OSU does not see him as a good fit for our system, they like somebody else better, he didn't give the staff a good vibe, he told the staff he isn't that interested,etc....

Or maybe the staff see's Hale at DE and he does not want to hear that and our staff is unwilling to waiver on their stance...

nonsense. afterall, michael bush will play qb at louisville and prescott burgess will be a SS at michigan. osu doesn't know how to project positions.

Reminds me of "The Naked Gun"....he opens the drawer...."Bingo" and pulls out the Bingo card!!! Hilarious!!

As for Hale....he is just being stubborn and will end up like the names that have already been listed, guys that go to a school that lies to them...and then play the same position the OSU staff wanted them to play.

Fine, send him to U-M! :) Actually, we'll probably looking at him at DE/DT. The last really good MLB we got was Brandon Graham, look where he's at now

Ohio State has picked up two linebackers for the 2009 class already. I don't see taking another linebacker in 2008 as being very important.
It's important. After this year, Larry Grant's gone. If Laurinaitis decides to stay, he'll graduate next year with Marcus Freeman & Curtis Terry. We won't be hurting for starters for the '09-'10 season, but we need depth and all 3 starting LB positions will be there for the best 3 players. We have to replenish what we're losing here the next two years, which means taking 1 LB (maybe 2) this year and 2-4 next year. You can never have enough guys who can hit and fly to the ball on your team.

Getting back on topic though, Hale is easily my favorite player we've been recruiting on D. He has a lot of potential from a LEO LB/DE prospective to be a great player or could be a superstar if he chose to play DE, falling back into coverage like a linebacker every once in a while.

It'll be a tredmendously tough decision for him, but one he'll have to make on his own. I feel bad that this "ship is sailing", but I'm sure he can play the position he wants to at another school if he's dead set on playing the MIKE in college. His best bet to play MLB would be at WVU or UVA. That said though, he's a perfect fit for tOSU or scUM scheme-wise (Carpenter/W.Smith or Crable/Woodley). He's got a good chance at basically being forced to switch positions once he gets to his school to get him on the field (like Prescott Burgess- that position change scUM did made Tressel look psychic during his recruitment), but Brock Bolen's getting his chance to shine at RB now with Louisville (the wide majority of the schools recruiting him wanted him as a FB and he eventually had to transfer from the Illini to get his shot, but he's getting a ton of time at RB for Louisville). No matter where he goes though, Shane ought to see some time his freshman year.

Good luck making your decision Shane! Go wherever it feels right for ya.

As far as tOSU goes, it doesn't appear that this will be a difficult decision at all. He's not getting a lot of contact from us, so he's probably taking a hint on that. If, as other have suggested, the staff feels he's a DE, and he doesn't want to play that role, then the two sides agree to disagree and part ways. And we concievably move onto Sabino. Win/win for all parties in that case.

I think it's obvious the staff is putting its DL eggs in the Mobely basket with Scruggs as a back up plan. Hale is an LB and Sabino is who the staff prefers at this stage.

As grad said the staff might disagree with you...we think they see Hale as more of a DE who can play standing up in certain situations. Other programs are selling Hale on being a playmaker exclusively as a LB.
