Kings rookie Tyreke Evans linked to drive-by shooting lawsuit
Sacramento Kings rookie and emerging NBA star Tyreke Evans was among four defendants named in a wrongful death lawsuit filed in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
The civil suit was filed by the
family of Marcus Reason, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in November 2007 at the age of 19. Evan's cousin, Jamar Evans, pleaded guilty last January to third-degree murder and weapons charges in the case and was sentenced to between nine and 20 years in prison, the Sacramento Bee reports.
The King's rookie was allegedly driving the vehicle when the murder took place and testified for the prosecution during his cousin's hearing.
Evan's lawyer, Hayes Hunt, told the news source, "Tyreke Evans did nothing wrong…They've alleged he's somehow involved in this. Police didn't think he was, neither did prosecution. No one."
Police reports have said that Evans did not know his cousin had a gun until seeing him slip it into his sweatshirt after firing at Reason, reports the Bee.
