Four months before he?ll begin summer camp at Cardinal O?Hara, quarterback Tom Savage has wrapped up the recruiting process.

According to a source, Savage (6-4, 231) decided Wednesday night to take his talents to Rutgers University, where he?ll play for coach Greg Schiano. The junior chose the Scarlet Knights from a list that included Georgia, Tennessee, Miami, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Michigan and Louisville.

Savage will hold a press conference at O?Hara Friday afternoon to formally announce his decision. Ranked as the No. 6 quarterback prospect in the country by rivals.com, Savage was unavailable for comment Wednesday night.

Savage has been a starter for O?Hara since his freshman year, when he split the quarterback duties with Anthony Walters. He?s been recruited by nearly every major college program in the country, but Rutgers has always been near the top of his list.

After passing for 1,481 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore, Savage was hampered by a foot injury during his junior season. The injury cost Savage playing time early in the season and late in the campaign. In limited action, he passed for 809 yards and eight touchdowns.

Savage is the second member of his family to commit to play quarterback for a Division I school. Bryan Savage, Tom?s older brother and a 2004 graduate of The Haverford School, committed to Wisconsin as a senior. He?s now the starter at Hofstra.

Tom Savage, a former starting quarterback who is transferring from Rutgers, has been granted permission to speak with Arizona, according to a story in the Miami Herald.
Savage has been granted permission to speak with Marshall, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois, in addition to the Wildcats, according to the story.
His preference appears to be Miami, but, in giving Savage a conditional release from his scholarship, Rutgers is denying him permission to speak with Miami, Florida, Florida State and Michigan. Savage's father has appealed that decision to Rutgers. Continued....

Mixed feelings... I have seen this kid numerous times... I think he's an excellent QB...

The kid that replaced him is better for Rutgers...but not necessarily a better QB...

I think Savage would be fabulous at the Florida schools.. and I'm just as happy if he doesn't go there... Give him better receivers and look out...

Not that I know anything... but I predict Savage will play on Sundays...
