By Mark Gokavi

CHICAGO ? Maybe it didn't make up for a Jan. 9 miss, but Jamar Butler's 3-pointer Sunday against Wisconsin helped ease the pain of Ohio State's last loss.
The junior guard had to retrieve the basketball after it got knocked beyond half court at the United Center.

Buckeyes stomp Badgers

Big Ten champ OSU will play as No. 1 seed in NCAA South

By Marla Ridenour

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CHICAGO - Fourteen days ago, Ohio State needed a shot from Mike Conley Jr. with four seconds to go to beat Wisconsin by a point.
Sunday in the United Center in Chicago was an entirely different matter.
The top-ranked Buckeyes (30-3) played perhaps their best basketball of the season over a three-day span and capped it with a 66-49 victory over the Badgers in the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
Running its winning streak to 17 games, Ohio State was seeded No. 1 in the NCAA South Region. It takes on Central Connecticut State (22-11), the Northeast Conference champion, Thursday in Lexington, Ky.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Monday, March 12, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Chicago -- Ohio State reached 30 wins for the first time in school his tory, becoming just the 12th Big Ten men's basketball team to win that many in a season, and did it with a defensive effort Sunday that didn't center around Greg Oden.
In their 66-49 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament title game, the Buckeyes slapped the Badgers with a 2-3 zone defense that limited Big Ten Player of the Year Alando Tucker to 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting, a wrinkle that could show up again against a big-time scorer in the NCAA Tournament.
"We came out with a different game plan," said OSU guard Jamar Butler. "We wanted to limit Tucker's touches, and I think we did a great job of that. We made him take tough shots, and I think our defense is playing great now."

Buckeyes dance way into NCAA
ASSOCIATED PRESS - 03.12.2007
[FONT=Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif]CHICAGO ? Greg Oden heard the chants for one more year from the Ohio State fans and did his best to ignore them.
Time will tell if the 7-foot freshman grants their wish or answers the call of the NBA, but his mind was on other things Sunday.
Like celebrating No. 1 Ohio State?s Big Ten championship victory over Wisconsin.
Like the NCAA tournament, where the Buckeyes will be a top seed.
Oden wasn?t at his best, but Mike Conley and Ron Lewis compensated as the Buckeyes beat No. 3 Wisconsin 66-49 to win their second conference tournament title.
Conley scored 18 points, Lewis added 17, and now, Ohio State can focus on the big prize.

Convincing win slams Wisconsin
JASON LLOYD, Morning Journal Writer

CHICAGO -- When they met during the last week of the regular season, Ohio State needed an acrobatic basket from Mike Conley in the final seconds to beat Wisconsin at Value City Arena.

Two weeks later, essentially without Greg Oden for an entire half, the Buckeyes pounded the Badgers in the Big Ten tournament championship game yesterday, 66-49. With the NCAA Tournament set to begin for the Buckeyes Thursday in Lexington, Ky., it would appear they are playing their best basketball at exactly the right time.

Now that we have Vanquished Wisconsin and the Big ten in an admirable manner I can ask the question;
Where do you think tOSU stands in regards to the expectations at the time we signed last years recruiting class.
At that time did you expect us to be
1. the big ten champions
2. finish in the top half of the big ten
3. finish in the bottom half of the big ten
4. win the Dance

I expected us to finish in the top half and hoped we would have a chance to win it.
