While Stamford High School may be winless this season, they do have a number of young talented players on their team that will certainly be making an impact over the next few years. One of those athletes is outside linebacker prospect Khairi Fortt, a sizeable young man who impressed at camps this summer.

John Nash Column -- There is no off-season for Fortt, Redd - Stamford News - The Stamford Times

Posted on 01/07/2009

Speaking from the calendar's point of view, the high school football season has been officially over for weeks now.

Some players have moved on to other sports, a few make occasional sojourns to the weight room, others hit the couch and wait until August.

For two of Stamford's best gridiron stars, however, there is no off-season. There can't be. Not with their futures at stake.

Stamford High's Khairi Fortt and King's Silas Redd spent part of the New Year in San Antonio, Texas, last week, taking part in the 2008 U.S. Army National Underclassman Combine.

They were two of 500 football players from across the entire country invited to showcase their abilities for college coaches, scouts and analysts. And, boy, did they ever showcase themselves.

By the time all was said and done, one scouting service had both players ranked amongst the top 35 in the entire country -- regardless of position.

"It was a great experience," said Fortt. "Me and Silas, we went down and we represented the Northeast."

"I think we showed that people in the south aren't the only people who can play football," added Redd.

Not that LB's are a huge need, but if we are to lose Hicks, I would love to land Fortt...Everything I continue to read and hear about him, have him as one of the top LB's...

SLB: Jamel Turner
MLB: Khairi Fortt
WLB: Scott McVey

Yeah, I'll take that

The fact that Miami is interested in him (and they usually get a lot of good LBs from in-state), should tell you of the kind of guy he is. Definitely let's get our hands on him.
