I think that alley oop might of been illegal as he looked to be in the cylinder however it was awesome

Yes, it was clearly in the cylinder as the overhead view showed. You know the refs in the Big Ten "let them play" and it worked to OSU's advantage on that play. But on the flipside, the Huskers could've been called for a flagrant for taking down DT when he was trying to go in for a layup late in the first half, and they just called a regular foul - dangerous play there.

I missed out on the free money but.....Hell. Yes.

If this type of Ross can keep going and play within himself, we're in the money.

What I see from him though is that he still plays like he's trying to prove too much and make a play every time down. Play within yourself my friend and this Buckeye team has a shot at anything they want.

DT makes shots he shouldnt have any chance in hell of making. Shooters roll and then some.

Aaron Craft went after em the second half and the Buckeyes were the team we want them to be.

Big inside test coming tomorrow boys. Let's do it.

CHICAGO ? The game was not even 31/2 minutes old when Ohio State coach Thad Matta called a timeout, turned the color of an overripe tomato and treated his team to his best Bob Knight impression.

He got up in Deshaun Thomas? face and let the junior All-American have it, gave some to sophomore center Amir Williams and then dropped what he had left on the rest of the team. It was a verbal mugging, plain and simple. Aspirin and spit towels were optional.

Why did this normally mild-mannered coach turn into a foot-stomping, head-bobbing, tonsil-straining lunatic?

Nebraska led 9-4.

?It was d?j? vu,? Matta said. ?We have notoriously started our first game like this, and I tried as best I could to warn our guys that this could happen. I felt like we needed a timeout to say, ?Hey this is what I was talking about last night in the final meeting. This is what I talked about this morning after film session. If you?re not ready to go, you?re going to get embarrassed.? ?And we were getting embarrassed out there.?

Thomas? benching ? he sat out almost five minutes ? and Matta?s furor didn?t immediately solve all of the Buckeyes? problems. But it makes you wonder if it doesn?t say a lot about why Ohio State has made it to the final of the Big Ten tournament five times in the past six years.

There was no upset on this night. The Buckeyes defeated the Cornhuskers 71-50 to advance to a tournament semifinal.

?Obviously that stems from the top and comes down,? junior guard Aaron Craft said. ?Coach is one of the biggest competitors I know.?

In other words, people who think it would be better if the Buckeyes lost early in this tournament and used the time to get well-rested for the NCAA Tournament might as well save their breath.

Matta wants to win these games ? badly. He always has. He admitted that this team isn?t a lot different than most of his other teams when it comes to needing an occasional verbal prodding.

?It?s probably the same,? Matta said. ?I can take you back to stories of Big Ten tournaments, of screaming at Greg Oden one time, to screaming (during) a timeout one time and the gum landed on David Lighty?s leg, which kind of ruined the mood of what I was doing.?

He laughed. On this evening, his mood wasn?t ruined. Thomas was a much better player after he had a little bench time. The junior admitted that he wouldn?t have handled the benching as well early in his career.

?I probably would have flipped,? Thomas said. ?I probably would have thrown chairs around or still been talking on the bench, probably would have had my feet out and leaned back in my chair. But I can handle it. Coach knew I was going to be mature and calm down and be ready when he called my name.?
