Lloyd has the hot foot
Posted by JenniferScroggins at 7/23/2009 5:05 PM EDT on Cincinnati.com
CHCA punter John Lloyd, 6-3, 230, has been a busy bee this summer.
Lloyd already has made campus visits to the likes of Illinois and Northwestern. And this week, Lloyd was back on the road.
He punted for Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez on Tuesday, according to Steve Lloyd, John's father.
And Friday night, John Lloyd will be in Florida for the annual "Friday Night Lights" event in The Swamp.
Yet another member of the local Class of 2010 is going to have some decisions to make.

As a junior starting pitcher for Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy this past season, John Lloyd went 9-0 with a 1.19 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched.
As impressive as Lloyd is on the diamond, however, baseball isn't his best sport. No, that would be football; Lloyd, who will be a senior, is one of the top punters in the country.
"It's his passion," CHCA head football coach Eric Taylor said. "He works very hard as a punter and spends a lot of time on the field working. He has a very powerful leg."
A preseason All-Tri-state selection in 2008, Lloyd averaged more than 42 yards per punt last year, and 41 percent of his kicks landed inside the 20, as he helped the Eagles to an 11-1 record. He was named all-conference, all-city, all-district and all-state.
Lloyd, who lives in Evendale, began his punting career as a third-grader at Cincinnati Christian Academy.
"I was always the biggest kid and had a strong leg," said Lloyd, who is currently 6-2, 225. "My dad saw it as a way for me to go somewhere."
It certainly has been - and will be.
Lloyd was in Gainesville, Fla., on July 24 for the annual "Friday Night Lights" event at the Swamp. On July 25, he traveled to Wisconsin for the Kohl's National Invitational Scholarship Professional Kicking and Punting Camp, where he was ranked No. 5 out of 136 punters.
Several schools have expressed interest in Lloyd, who has visited Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Miami of Ohio, Cincinnati, Florida and Arkansas - among others.

Lloyd could be next in line after Hagerup
Will Hagerup (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) is the top punter in the Midwest. He has over a dozen scholarship offers including Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Alabama, Illinois and Tennessee.
Hagerup will likely select a college within the next month, and it appears he will likely select the Badgers, Buckeyes or Wolverines.
Hagerup's decision may impact punter John Lloyd (Cincinnati Hills, Ohio/Christian Academy).
"A lot of schools are waiting to see what happens with Will Hagerup," Lloyd said. "After he decides we will see what happens. I want to see what doors open."
Lloyd is hoping to land his first scholarship offer after Hagerup decides, if not before.
"Right now out of the schools I've visited and talked to, I'd say my top three are Florida, Vanderbilt and Illinois," Lloyd said. "I've been to those three schools. They've said they want to wait until the end of this month."
Many other schools have been in contact with Lloyd, including Miami, Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas and Ohio State.
