Rodriguez offers another Ohioan

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez already has commitments from three prospects from the Buckeye State -- wide receivers Jerald Robinson (Canton, Ohio/South) and D.J. Williamson (Warren, Ohio/ Harding) and linebacker Antonio Kinard (Youngstown, Ohio/ Liberty).

On Thursday, another Ohioan wide receiver/defensive back Bobby Swigert (Louisville, Ohio) landed an offer from the Wolverines.

"[Michigan assistant] coach [Bruce] Tall came to see me two weeks ago," Swigert said. "He came to my baseball game on Monday. Then they sent an offer through the fax to the school [on Thursday]. When I got done lifting, my coach called me into his office and told me about it."

Though Swigert knew the Wolverines were interested, he was not expecting a scholarship offer -- at least not this early.

"I was pumped up when it came," Swigert said. "It surprised me. Hopefully it will lead to some more big offers."

Swigert has over a dozen offers including Colorado, Cincinnati, Pitt, Indiana and a host of MAC schools. He has no plans to select a college anytime soon.

SWIGART OFFERED BY BLUE

Louisville quarterback Bobby Swigart is starting to rival history at his high school. Swigart was offered a football scholarship by Michigan last week, and offers from Purdue and Kansas are expected next week.

So far, Swigart has been offered by Michigan, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Mississippi State, Maryland and Harvard. Swigart carries a 3.9 grade-point average.

All the offers have been as a college wide receiver. Most of Mid-American Conference schools and other mid-majors are in on him as well. It?s clear, however, he?s going to be playing at a BCS conference school or in the Ivy League.

?The only other (Louisville) players who may have been recruited more were Bob Gladieux, Mark Steir and Dick and Kenny Kuhn,? Louisville head coach Paul Farrah said.

WHAT ABOUT THE BUCKS?

Ohio State hasn?t offered Swigart, but don?t count it out. Swigart will take part in a one-day OSU camp in mid-June. Buckeyes Head Coach Jim Tressel has been known to offer players after that camp.

Notre Dame has made overtures, but Irish Head Coach Charlie Weis hasn?t pulled the trigger on an official offer.

The local paper that Buckskin86 posted the link above titled "SWIGART OFFERED BY BLUE" has the schools a little off...

Allow me to clarify...

Bobby Swigert with an "e" currently has 16 total offers

6 from the BCS schools (Michigan, Colorado, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati & Syracuse)

& 10 MAC schools (Miami of Ohio, Kent State, Bowling Green, Akron, Ball State, Toledo, Central Michigan, Ohio,Eastern Michigan, & Western Michigan)

Miss State & Maryland were mentioned in the article & have been talking to Coach and are actively recruiting him, but no formal offer is in hand yet.

As for Harvard......
Harvard wants Bobby and they are actively recruiting him...
but he does not have an offer from Harvard because they don't give offers.

Harvard & all the Ivy league schools do not give Athletic Scholarship.
They give out need based aid to the football players.
It ends up basically equivalent to a partial scholarship.

His scountingohio.com website is 100% accurate.
We keep that up to date & when any offer arrives it will be posted there.

As for OSU, he will be going to the 1 day camp.

When is the 1 day camp at OSU?

2009 Ohio State Football Camp - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

The Advanced Camp (June 14 or 26) is for athletes entering the 11th or 12th grade as of the Fall of 2009. High School graduates are not eligible to attend. The Advanced Camp is a one-day intensive camp designed for the serious football athlete. The camp will include individual skill and technique drills and group instruction.

Maybe Basselope can clarify which 1 day advanced camp Bobby will be attending.
