Two more Indy stars

Indianapolis has produced so many top-notch players in recent years it's crazy. But don't think the run will come to an end anytime soon.

The latest two budding stars were shining bright last week at the Kentucky HoopFest in Louisville, helping the Indy Fast Break team win the 15 & under division title.

Michael Chandler is a 6-foot-10 sophomore-to-be at Indianapolis Lawrence North, while his high school and AAU teammate 6-6 Ryan Taylor is a solid wing player.

Both Chandler and Taylor (left) are potentially top-50 players (or higher) nationally. Indya Fast Break coach Richard Thomas said the colleges are already lining up.

Ohio State, Indiana, Florida, Cincinnati, Purdue and Illinois are among the ones that have called for Chandler. Taylor said "I want to be a Gator" and Thomas said the same schools are calling.

"When the schools call, they basically call for both," Thomas said. "I am sure everybody in the country will be calling on these guys."

Chandler has only played organized basketball for one season.

ill also toss out their they are a magnet for kids all around the state...
keefer can recruit, thats for sure. but coach? how can a team like LN continually not make it very far in the state tourney with such talent? they should be the odds-on favorite ever year.

Lawrence North junior Michael Chandler said Saturday morning that has alerted the Louisville coaches that he's reopening his recruitment.
"I wouldn't say I've decommitted because that makes it sound like a bad thing, but I've decided to open it up and look around again," said Chandler, who averaged 14.5 points and 7.7 rebounds as a junior. "I wanted to look around a little bit before I made things final and signed my letter of intent."

Another Indy player headed to Kentucky?
Posted by Jeff Rabjohns

Another Indy player headed to Kentucky? It's staring to look that way.

It's the Michael Chandler watch, and it's getting more interesting by the day.

The Lawrence North big man, who originally committed to Louisville then re-opened his recruiting, now could be headed several places, Indiana, Purdue and Kentucky among them.

Chandler, at 6-10, is the top uncommitted player in Indiana, ranked 10th in the nation, an instant impact player in college.

The tea leaves are currently going as such: Chandler spurned Indiana travel teams to play with Derrick Rose's team in Chicago. Rose, the top pick in the 2008 NBA draft and now the point guard for the Chicago Bulls, played at Memphis for John Calipari. Calipari is now the coach at Kentucky.

Got all that?

OK. Now, are people reading too much into things? Maybe. That's certainly one school of thought.

But it's sounding more and more as if Kentucky is the team to beat.

Chandler?s commitment tops big weekend for Xavier
Oct. 24, 2010

Xavier plucked its second top-50 national recruit from Indianapolis in as many days, securing a commitment from Lawrence North senior Michael Chandler on his official visit Sunday.

The 6-10 Chandler said he also considered Providence and West Virginia ? where he had taken other official visits ? as well as Connecticut and Indiana. North Central junior guard D?Vauntes Smith-Rivera committed to Xavier late Saturday night; he was also on campus on an unofficial visit.

Chandler, who committed to Louisville as a sophomore before reopening his recruitment in April, said he ?felt a really good bond with the coaches and players? at Xavier.

?I really want to go in there and help them do special things,? he said. ?I want to help them go to a Final Four.?

Chandler, who averaged 14.5 points and 7.7 rebounds last season, is ranked No. 47 by Rivals.com and No. 67 by Scout.com in the 2011 class nationally.

Chandler said he had ?a good idea? he was going to commit before taking the visit. He said he?s ?good friends? with Smith-Rivera, but added that his commitment did not impact his decision.

?It?s a different situation, but we?re friends,? he said. ?I just really felt like this would be the best place for me get better as a person and a player and it helps that it?s close to home.?
