The opening day of the the fall contact period is is an intriguing day in college basketball recruiting.

While 'Opening Day' can be overvalued, it is of enormous interest to any college basketball fan because it is the first day of the fall that coaches can have contact with recruits. The contact period that started Thursday runs through Oct. 5.

Indiana University coach Tom Crean went to Kansas to see Robert Goff, a sophomore at Hutchinson CC. The 6-9 power forward originally from Broad Ripple High School is regarded as one of the best big men in junior college and a player who can make an immediate impact when he transfers.

Goff also has interest from Auburn, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Ohio State, among a few others.

NORMAN ? With the 2010-11 basketball season still several weeks away, Oklahoma got a head start on 2011-12 Sunday night, when junior college big man Robert Goff reportedly committed to the Sooners.

"I'm very excited about my decision," Goff, who is listed at 6-9 or 6-10 and in the 230-240-pound range, told OUHoops.com. "I've wanted to be a Sooner for a very long time."

Goff, a power forward, played at Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. He drew some interest from Indiana while at Cowley, but went with the Sooners Sunday night.

"I know Robert's always like OU and Coach (Jeff) Capel. He's always told me that," Steve Eck, Goff's coach at Cowley County (Kan.) Community College last year, told Rivals.com. "I think the main thing is he felt comfortable with them."
