'11 MI LB Lawrence Thomas (Michigan State Signee)

Rivals $

1/26

From the ND site...says Michigan and OSU are showing the most interest...wants to visit as many schools as possible...some schools have mentioned WR but definitely prefers LB.

Weird combination of potential college positions there.

I know what you mean but honestly it's not that uncommon anymore...6-4 235 is not weird for a WR anymore (that's what David Ausberry was coming out of high school)...just depends on the body type and frame. Think of it this way...6-4 235 pretty well describes Jake Stoneburner, Melvin Fellows and Adam Homan (according to OSU's site)...three guys who play very different positions based on how they are built.

...
In 2011 they will hope to sign arguably the best linebacker prospect in the entire Big Ten region: Lawrence Thomas of Detroit Renaissance High. Thomas already has scholarship offers from all over the country, and Michigan State is hoping he can be a centerpiece for the class of 2011 the way William Gholston was in 2010. Thomas is the type of recruit who will draw other quality prospects to play with him.

Rivals $ - Video: Lawrence Thomas just kills it

Not the most impressive highlight tape production wise or in regards to showcasing Thomas' skills. I'm assuming this was film taken from the space station & Thomas was the biggest, fastest speck moving around on the screen. What can be made out shows a player with some size & burst mostly working from a 2 pt stance as a LB. Too many drag down tackles for my taste though & I'll be shocked if doesn't end up with his hand in the dirt in college...

Talks about his feelings regarding the Southern Cal offer, the recruiting attention, & being newly named as the Scout #1 MLB in the class... He hasn't talked to any of the USC coaches yet... They've told his coach they really want to make contact & hopefully get him out for a visit... No discussion of leaders or time frame...

Wow kid has some impressive offers... Real impressive. Also getting some high praise from scouting services. There is an obvious reason that I am not a recruiting guru and this kid is a prime example. I would have never guessed best MLB prospect in the nation.

Obvioulsy has the size and can move pretty well. The comparision to Woodley is quit the comparision for sure. As other have said, I would be shocked if he played any of the LB positions in college.
