'11 PA CB Dondi Kirby (Illinois Signee)

Doran Grant might be thinking about Ohio State - ESPN

Doran Grant (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Dondi Kirby (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) were the top two defensive backs working out at Penn State. Both are talking about playing cornerback in college, but only one seems likely to do so. Grant is a natural corner, while Kirby's size and skill set are much better suited to safety. Kirby's list of offers has grown to 13 with the recent additions of Ohio State, Iowa and North Carolina. Though the Buckeyes were not among Kirby's early offers, talk on Sunday centered on the star defensive back's interest in Ohio State.

When Kirby signs his national letter of intent in February, it will be nothing new at his school. There have been 10 Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway defensive backs who have signed with Division I colleges in the past four years, including Corey Brown, who signed with Ohio State two years ago.

Another blurb from Happy Valley:

Doran Grant, defensive backs shine at State College Nike Football Training Camp - ESPN

As good as Grant was, Dondi Kirby (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) was not far behind. At nearly 6-foot-3, Kirby is considerably taller than the 5-11 Grant, but does not have Grant's foot quickness. However, Kirby has excellent range and breaks on the ball very well. He has played both safety and cornerback for Gateway and has the ability to cover, but Kirby is expected to play safety at the next level.

A good friend who I trust and follows recruiting closely for PSU indicates that academics could be an issue for Kirby at PSU. If so, I'm sure the same would be true at OSU. Does Kirby have an offer from OSU? I'm not trying to knock the kid but i trust this source.

I'm thinking doubtful. PSU just hasn't recruited Gateway with much success for a long time. I believe they pulled a kid in 2007, but he did not have many offers.

Sounds like the "rumors" that surface when OSU is about to pull a kid out of Miami.

Sounds like something a PSU fan might say as a reason that PSU is not recruiting said up-and-coming prospect... when one of their local rivals is beating them for said prospect in their back yard. Just sayin'...

this is the same psu that took guys like jb walton and antonio logan-el, neither of which had a chance at qualifying. i'm sure it's his academics that has prevented psu from acquiring his services.

Video From GoBlueWolverine.....Talks about his experience at the Penn State Nike Camp. Has most recently heard from Ohio State, Iowa & North Carolina. Says he would like to wait until Signing Day and says he doesn't have a leader at this point. Plans on taking visits & participating in 7 on 7 football over the summer. Talks about his interest in Michigan and says he will be attending the 'Barbecue at the Big House'.

Sour grapes.

There pseudo pipeline eneded shortly after a certain players father who may be a coach on the Gateway staff felt his son wasn't treated properly.

This is why I typically side with Tress on all things Glenville. You'll never know how good it is until it's gone.

Even if the above isn't all true, PSU does not have a strong track record of putting guys in the league at db.

And that theory only makes sense to people who believe that a coach who played at Penn State can ignore his own experience as well as that of everyone he played with and then hold a grudge simply because his step son "only" got drafted in the 4th round.

In other words, that notion appeals to fans who enjoy conspiracy theories and believe everything they read in the Weekly World News.
