Coach Schuman's Recruiting and Sports Blog-- A New Star in the Making

James is just getting his feet wet with colleges starting to get to know him and it will only be a matter of time before he is bombarded with interest. "I attended multiple football camps in the summer. Michigan and Michigan State displayed some interest in my talent during those camps, but nothing more than that. At this point, I am high on the following schools: Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, USC, and UCLA."

Aside from next year's star LB, Lawrence Thomas, this kid seems to be the next big-time linebacker out of Michigan, and at a school the Buckeyes have had some decent luck in recruiting in years past.

I don't know whether there is any relevance, but back in 1993, the Buckeyes signed a linebacker out of the Detroit area (I forget the high school) named James Ross. That's obviously not the least common name out there, but it could be more than a coincidence. The 1993 James Ross, BTW, only lasted a year or two in Columbus before transferring.

Top Prospect: James Ross, St Mary's HS, MI Class of 2012

James Ross, St Mary's HS, MI Class of 2012:
James+Ross.jpg

The Freshman LB MVP at the prestigious 2009 Top Prospect Camp, Ross is an absolute monster with great physical gifts. At 6-0 203, Ross posses good power and athleticism, bench pressing 135 lbs 31 times and jumping 8-5 on the broad while competing at the Dallas Ultimate 100 (where he also won LB MVP). His ability to stop the run and cover is field are outstanding.

Future Outlook:
With two years of eligibility left, the sky is the limit for Ross. Since he possesses all of the necessary tools to star for many years to come, expect to see him settle in at a big time program in a few years around 6-2 225.

2/05/10: Video of the Day: James Ross - Orchard Lake St. Mary?s - Michigan

There?s some violence going down and James Ross has something to do with it. From the first clip on his video, Ross keeps your eyes frozen to the computer monitor. The first guy lost his cap and the violence continued. Ross will thump you and it becomes clear as you view the footage that he enjoys playing football. Ross sits up in the box waiting for the collision and hoping that they run the ball to his hole. He?s what high school linebackers are supposed to be and he?s out to make the other team wish they hadn?t crossed his path. If you like defense then you will be entertained by Mr. Ross exploits on the field. With many Big-10 teams on his trail, he has the potential to become a national recruit as we enter the 2010 season. MSU offers Cincinnati linebacker
Posted: Feb. 18, 2010
BY MATT DORSEY

...
Early offer
Dantonio isn't going as far as Southern Cal coach Lane Kiffin and offering seventh graders, but the Spartans have apparent verbally extended a scholarship offer to a 2012 prospect, Orchard Lake St. Mary?s linebacker James Ross. He is expected to be the No. 1 recruit in Michigan for the class of 2012. His recruitment will likely be a national affair, much like that of Detroit Renaissance's Lawrence Thomas and Saginaw's DeAnthony Arnett from the class of 2011.

#1 LB prospect in Michigan of 2012

What's a variable offer? Does it fluctuate in value?

The thing about the verbal offers are only because this is the only way a school can offer a prospect of this age. He can't get a offer in the form of a letter until September 1st of his Junior year. Believe me UM was not happy they were not 1st. This kid did not play hs football his freshman year he played for his PAL team but if he did people would have known more about him. He would have started as a freshman but UM and MSU knew of him during his PAL days.
