'12 NY C DaJuan Coleman (Syracuse Verbal)

I think you're wrong (I had posted something similar so I edited it just now after looking up the facts). DaJuan is not related to Derrick Coleman.
My error, apparently. Though a look at Derrick suggests this may be an excusable error:

Uncanny resemblance for unrelated people of essentially identical size.

Derrick Coleman is NOT my father.
by Quinn Peterson

dajuan_coleman.jpg

It?s a mixup that happens far too often. Same size, same initials, same field. One played at Syracuse, the other calls it his hometown. And, especially upon first glance, there?s a striking resemblance.

But Derrick Coleman is not DaJuan Coleman?s father.

?There will be tournaments and stuff and people are always asking me, is that my father? Naw, that?s not my father,? said DaJuan.

Though the two aren?t related, they could certainly be on the same path. Derrick Coleman, of course, was a high school legend in Detroit, All-American at Syracuse, and eventual No. 1 overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft. Likewise, DaJuan Coleman, is one of the top players high school players in the country, looking to take his talents to college and hopefully the LeagDaJuan Colemanue soon after.

He?s been hard at work this summer to make that a possibility.

?It?s been real good,? he said about his summer. This year, Coleman has played at the adidas Nations Global Experience in Chicago, the LeBron James Skills Academy and made his rounds on the AAU circuit, playing with the Westchester (NY) Hawks. Most recently, he was patrolling the paint in Venice Beach at Boost Mobile Elite 24.

?I think it?s an honor that I?ve been chosen to be at all this stuff. A couple years back, nobody would ever think that it would be me at all this. So I think it?s a real honor and I?m happy just to be at these tournaments and events.?

?Most kids would get a little big headed, going to LeBron [Skills Academy], going to Amar?e Stoudemire [Skills Academy], adidas Nations, going to all these places, but he stays level-headed with his little grin and little smile. That?s what you want out of these kids nowadays,? said Rasheem Young, Coleman?s AAU Coach. ?A lot of kids that I?ve seen in the past are ranked as young kids, and then they become juniors and seniors, and you look up like, What happened to them??

Syracuse, Kentucky, Kansas, Lousiville, Ohio St., Pittsburgh and North Carolina are some of the schools on his shortlist. He called North Carolina his dream school.

DaJuan Coleman is a 20-and-20 Machine

rsz_coleman.jpg

Jamesville-DeWitt (N.Y.) center DaJuan Coleman has read all of the reports about his supposed top five list of schools, but he remains baffled, since he never released an official top five.

?It?s crazy how things just get put out there,? said Coleman, a junior who is ranked 23rd in the HSH National Top 50. ?I don?t have a top five.?

We caught up with Coleman to get his real list and get the scoop on how he?s been able to emerge as one of the top rebounders in the country, plus much more.

HighSchoolHoop: Certainly you?re thrilled to be back in school hitting the books, but recap your summer for me. Were you pleased with your overall performance?
DaJuan Coleman: Yeah, I?d say so. It was really competitive, but I felt like I put in work pretty good. I just wanted to dominate the floor and run the floor. I wanted to improve my post game and I feel like I did all that.

HSH: And you capped it off with adidas Nations?
DC: Yeah that was fun. A lot of competition and just playing against different styles was helpful. I even went against a 7-5 guy. That was crazy!

HSH: Wow, 7-5?
DC: Yep, every bit of it too.

HSH: So did he give you the business or what?
DC: (Laughs) Oh no no? I gave it to him!

HSH: What did you average this summer?
DC: I averaged 25 points and just under 20 rebounds.

HSH: We?d heard about the rebounding. How do you grab so many?
DC: It?s a timing thing and a mindset with me. I really believe that I can grab every rebound and I try to go get them all. That?s worked for me.

HSH: It definitely has. So just to rehash, no top five?
DC: No, that report wasn?t true.

HSH: OK, well run me down your list.
DC: Syracuse, North Carolina, Kentucky, Connecticut, Louisville, Ohio State? Those are the schools that I?m concentrating the most on right now.

HSH: Have you taken visits to these schools?
DC: No, I?m really only familiar with Syracuse because that?s my hometown.

HSH: You and Rakeem Christmas (Bryn Athyn, Pa., 2011) are cool, right?
DC: Yeah.

HSH: So does him committing there and it being your hometown give the Orangemen any type of edge?
DC: A little bit, but I still would say that I?m wide open.

HSH: Are you planning on setting up visits any time soon?
DC: I don?t think so. I?m just gonna take my time with it.

Junior Achievers: Your guide to the special series on Breanna Stewart, Dajuan Coleman
Published: Sunday, September 26, 2010
The Post-Standard The Post-Standard

It?s rare to find a top high school basketball recruit in Central New York. It?s even more unusual to have two.

Jamesville-DeWitt junior Dajuan Coleman and Cicero-North Syracuse junior Breanna Stewart are two of the prized basketball recruits in the class of 2012. He's 17 and stands 6 feet, 9 inches tall. She just turned 16 and is 6-3. College coaches from the nation?s most successful basketball programs (including Syracuse University) are courting both players.

"The Syracuse area may not be that much of a hotbed (for talent)," said Glenn Nelson, a founder of HoopGurlz, a recruiting site owned by ESPN and devoted to girls basketball. "You?d say, well, two kids from Los Angeles or two kids from Houston maybe. But now we?re talking two kids from

Meyer's Mailbag: Who's looking good in 2012?

Hey Jerry, I wanted to know how is the 2012 class looking for the Tar Heels? Are we really in the run for players like Andre Drummond, DaJuan Coleman, and Shabazz Muhammad? Who is favoring UNC right now?

North Carolina doesn't have any 2012 commitments yet, but the Tar Heels are in the running for the three prospects you mention. You can also throw Cameron Ridley and J.P. Tokoto in there as North Carolina recruiting targets.

Muhammad, an elite wing is considered a North Carolina lean. Five-star post players Drummond and Coleman are projected to stay close to him by most who are handicapping their recruitments. Connecticut is considered the favorite for Drummond while Syracuse is considered the leader for Coleman.

Ridley's recruitment is in a little earlier stage than fellow five-star post players Drummond and Coleman, but North Carolina will have its work cut out to lure Ridley out of Texas.

And with Tokoto, North Carolina is certainly firmly in the mix, but so are a host of other schools, including Duke.

If North Carolina's recruiting were to play out along these projections, there will be more offers extended by the Tar Heels.

DaJuan Coleman Talk Schools
By Adam Zagoria on November 14, 2010

COLEMAN_DAJUAN_150_7_26.JPG

DaJuan Coleman lives only about five minutes from the Syracuse campus, so it?s not surprising that he?s been to three games already this young season.

Coleman attended Syracuse?s 86-67 win over Canisius Sunday after hitting the home-opener against Northern Iowa and the exhibition against Le Moyne.

?It was pretty good,? Coleman said of the Canisius game. ?They pulled away from them at the end.?

The 6-foot-10, 280-pound Coleman is the No. 3 center in the Class of 2011, per Rivals.

He initially said his ?top five? consisted of Syracuse, Ohio State, North Carolina, Kentucky and Louisville.

Then he amended his list to say West Virginia and Georgetown were recruiting him hard as well.

?That?s my top seven,? he said.

He said he?s always considered Syracuse and North Carolina his dream schools, but isn?t sure where Carolina stands at this point.

?North Carolina was my dream school but I don?t know about North Carolina,? he said. ?I?ve got to see where they?re at in a couple years, how good of a team they?re gonna be.?

Despite the public perception that Syracuse is his favorite, Coleman says nobody tops the list right now.

?I ain?t really got no favorites at this time,? he said. ?I?m not leaning to one school right now.?

He said he hopes to decide a year from now, ?going into my senior year? at Jamesville-DeWitt.

Free Rivals - Coleman in control

DaJuan Coleman 2012, center, Jamesville-Dewitt

Looking much better conditioned than during the summer, Coleman played 30 minutes of dominant, high level basketball Sunday night. Numerous times he scored against contact, he pursued rebounds outside of his area and he looked great handling the ball in the open court. Coleman will never be a high rising athlete, but when in condition he has the ability to control space and make skilled plays in the mold of a Kevin Love or Jared Sullinger. Coleman finished with 23 points on 8-11 shooting, 7-13 from the line, 20 rebounds, one block, five assists and two turnovers.

nice some very nice hips similar to Sullinger's:)
uh, ok :tongue2: this kid has to like what he is seeing at tOSU this year with Sully. The four out, one in offense works perfectly for a kid with good back to the basket skills. Come on down, he can be the next Big Man contestant in from tOSU to the NBA (hopefully after a longer layover than our first three )

Free Rivals - Eye-catchers: Hoophall Classic

DaJuan Coleman C, Jamesville-Dewitt
Meyer's take: Coleman was simply a man amongst boys against Webster Groves. He did have a height advantage, but Webster Groves had some muscle. That muscle was no math for Coleman who scored numerous buckets through contact. A much better conditioned player than in the past, Coleman rang up an impressive double-double of 23 points and 20 rebounds.

Syracuse basketball recruit DaJuan Coleman: 'I'm not leaning toward any school'

Mike Greenlar / The Post Standard
Jamesville-DeWitt's DaJuan Coleman (15) is ranked as the No. 3 center in the class of 2012 on Rivals.com and No. 4 on Scout.

While many Syracuse basketball fans are waiting anxiously to find out whether DaJuan Coleman will follow in the footsteps of fellow Jamesville-DeWitt products Andy Rautins and Brandon Triche, the junior center says he's not in a hurry to make a decision.

"I'm basically wide open as far as schools," Coleman told the Dominion Post, after contributing 27 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks in J-D's 65-57 loss to Wheeling Park in the Prime Time Shootout in West Virginia on Saturday. "I'm not leaning toward any school. I'm just taking my time."

The 6-foot-8, 280 pound center is a five-star, top-10 recruit in the class of 2012. His list of top schools includes Syracuse, North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio State, and Louisville, among others.
