The Penn State staff is putting the finishing touches on their 2010 recruiting class. Joe Paterno's group of 18 commitments is currently the No. 1 class in the Big Ten and one of the country's best.

With so much of his 2010 recruiting completed, Paterno and his staff are working on their 2011 class having already extended scholarship offers to several juniors.

They are also working ahead towards 2012. One such prospect they are already in contact with is linebacker/running back Jaylen Prater from Wellston, Ohio.

Wellston (Ohio) OLB Jaylen Prater (6-0/215) has offers from a lot of in-state schools. Cincinnati was his first offer followed by Ohio, Toledo and Bowling Green. He camped at all four places last summer.

He is receiving a lot of interest from Northwestern and Stanford as well and those two, along with Cincy, make up his top three.

He plans to make junior day at Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Linebacker Jaylen Prater from Wellston in southeastern Ohio, who holds several offers from MAC schools but not an OSU offer, talked with Fickell last season when he was the linebackers coach, and talked with him again after camp ended Sunday.

Asked if he thought Fickell was ready for his role as head coach, Prater said, "From a knowledge and coaching standpoint, yes. From an experience standpoint, we'll find out."
