While Justin Magazine isn't Warren G. Harding's #1 tailback, you really can't use the term/phrase "backup" or "second string" to describe him. With the offense that WGH runs, you'll often see Magazine lined up in the backfield with senior Demond Hymes, WGH's main option at tailback. Magazine is short, but well put together at 5'5, 175 pounds. He plays extremely hard on both sides of the ball and gets better every game. His current statistics won?t blow you away, but when his name is called, he does everything that?s asked of him and more as he averages nearly eight yards per touch. In fact, after Hymes went down with an injury towards the end of the first half of WGH?s game against Cleveland Heights, Magazine had 126 & 2 touchdowns on 14 carries, all in the second half, to help lead his team to a 51-27 victory. When he?s not carrying the ball, you'll often find him delivering vicious blocks to opposing players.

Are you looking at a future Ohio State tailback? Theoretically, no, but I always encourage WGH?s players to think big and outside the box. In fact, if current Ohio State tailback Dan "Boom" Herron put a lot of stock into what most people (both in & out of Warren, OH) said/thought about him, he would not be a Buckeye today, but he believed in himself and pursued his goals with everything that he had. Magazine has a lot of room to grow as a player, but his heart will take him a long way. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he made a Division 1 coach very happy one day. Until then, he'll continue to work towards helping WGH capture their first state championship in 20 years. If that is the case this year, then WGH will have to get past Cleveland Glenville this Saturday (November 6, 2010). More updates soon.
