'12 TX LB Derek David (Official Offer)

No story yet, but he has apparently committed to Texas Tech, per their rivals site.

Super random, considering his current offer list and probably many more elite offers to follow in the coming months. I'll be interested to see if it sticks or not...

Wow. That came out of nowhere...

ETA: Here's the link. I don't have a Rivals subscription

http://www.rockdalereporter.com/news/2010-10-07/Sports/David_breaks_ankle_out_for_six_weeks.html

Rockdale linebacker Derek David broke his ankle last night while participating in a Fellowship of Christian Athlete volleyball game and is expected to be out six weeks, which means his season is through with just five games left to play unless the Tigers make the playoffs.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound David is considered the best linebacking prospect in the state of Texas and has already verbally committed to Texas Tech. David led the Tigers in tackles this season and also starts on offense at tight end.

Stopped by Rockdale today (Derek David)...

Stopped in at Rockdale today and sat down with HC Jeff Miller for a few minutes.

Miller told me he's not sure where the recruitment of 2012 LB Derek David is headed, but he said the craziness is just now starting in terms of schools contacting him as the recruiting process moves forward. Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are among the schools that have been by recently.

Miller said Texas has not been by the school yet.

Also, keep an eye out for David's younger brother - 2014 LB James David. 6-2.5, 215 right now according to Miller. He was a unanimous 1st team All-District in a good 3A district.

GoBR's 2012 Texas Wish-y/Watch List: Linebacker

Derek David, Rockdale -- Perhaps a better raw athlete than Steve Edmond, now generally considered a top player nationally, David is a long, rangy player at 6-3, 225 and already has the mass to play in college immediately, though his frame still has quite a big of room to fill out. Like Keenan Robinson and Emmanuel Acho, David will be able to play in the 240-pound range in college without losing any of his speed.

A true sideline-to-sideline player and at times a vicious striker, David can rely on his speed a little bit too much, forcing him to take bad angles. At times he uses his hands well to take on blockers at the point of attack, but at other times he loses his leverage and doesn't take advantage of his long arms. His tackling is a similar story, but when he does sink his hips, wrap up, and bring his legs, he can really lay the wood.

Basically, the inconsistencies are relatively minor and his physical tools combined with his ability to back them up with some "wow" plays every time he steps on the field makes him a big-time prospect.

I wonder if Mr. David plans on opening up the recruitment again for the spring (he stated he didn't want recruiting to distract him during the season).

He's a national recruit, I just don't see the Red Raiders as being able to hold that down and I hope he sees a Buckeye future. :)

He reminds me of Curtis Grant. The kind of guy who;s straightforward, genuine, honest, and full of character, and a dang fine football player to boot. A Tressel type of player. I think we'll see him in a Buckeye uniform at the end :oh:

Scout $ - David Dating Around

2/8

Top three after Tech are Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Alabama...OSU and Texas behind that group. Plans to visit OSU and Alabama this spring.

I don't see any need to move this from the 2012 forum...wake me up if he actually visits.
