Beejay Anya Finalizing Visit Dates
By Adam Zagoria on September 26, 2012

Beejay Anya currently has two officials set, but by the end of Wednesday that number is expected to grow.

The 6-foot-8 center out of DeMatha Catholic already has officials set for Ohio State (Oct. 5) and Indiana (Oct. 19), but DeMatha coach Mike Jones is working on setting visits for Syracuse, Pittsburgh and N.C. State.

?I?m hoping to be able to set up at least one of them today [Wednesday],? Jones told SNY.tv.

Jones said Anya likely wouldn?t visit anywhere the weekend of Oct. 12 because he has Homecoming Oct. 13.

Anya, the No. 3 center in the Class of 2013, has connections to all five schools.

Unfortunately, no Buckeye connection:(

They do say he has connections everywhere that he is considering - perhaps Kameron Williams is a connection for him since they're from the same area, and I'm sure have been on the same team at times - it just isn't discussed in the article.

For instance, they were on the same team at the Nike Global Challenge this year:

But if major connections with someone else already there are particularly important, then I guess OSU will lose. But usually they decide based on whether a starting spot is available at their position and the prestige/competitive outlook of the school. OSU is not in bad shape in those areas at all.

They play on different AAU teams and Williams is from Baltimore and Anye is from Prince Georges County. Anye has been playing for Team Takeover for at least 3 years. Wiliams is Baltimore Elite. Before Team Takeover Anye played for Ivey 23.

Thanks for beating in one of the points I already made, that Anya has stronger connections to other schools on his list. But it's not like he and Kam have never been on the same team, as I showed before. Also, one of Anya's Team Takeover teammates from this year, Ish Wainright, is also officially visiting this OSU weekend along with him. So there! :tongue2:

Anya reportedly did not make the official visit at OSU as scheduled. No one has reported why. Very disappointing if he's just blowing them off, as he is one of the few big man targets that might be able to make a big impact in 2013-14 and OSU will probably already have lost consecutive starters at the 5 by the time the 2013 class would hit campus so they need to add someone at that position in the 2013 class.

No offense but I'm a little more tied into the DC-Baltimore hoops scene than you. :)

Well Anya is reportedly down to Indiana and NC State. Indiana, it bears mentioning, currently is projected to have 15 players on scholarship for the 2013-14 season. I don't know how they could possibly sign Anya since I believe you can only oversign by one. NC State might be the choice here. At any rate, I don't think we ever got an explanation for why Anya's visit to OSU was cancelled - like Jordan Mickey, he promised an official but never took one. Was he just jerking OSU around?

I really can't explain why tOSU has had a hard time with some of these elite prospects. Obviously UK, Duke and UNC are going to get their guys but losing prospects to NC State, LSU and wherever we lost everyone to last year I don't get. We've had 2 final fours in 5 years and many Big Ten titles. We've also had many pro players and a NPOY. Just don't get it.

Well, Anya would have been coming a long way to go to OSU, and Mickey would've had to have gone even farther ... it's tough to get highly rated recruits to play out of their area unless you're like UNC, UCLA or UK (and lately Indiana seems to have gotten the ability to tap their East Coast connection for several players - I guess hiring an AAU coach is worth it's weight in recruiting gold).
