Jonathan Hilliman, a consensus three-star running back out of St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.), has scheduled a two-day unofficial visit to Rutgers for July 24 and 25th. The 6-1, 235-pounder holds offers from multiple schools across the country, including Rutgers, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Oregon, Miami (Fla.), Wisconsin and Penn State, to name a few.

However, when he recently released his top six, Rutgers, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Miami and Vanderbilt were the names of the schools on his list.

In order to further cut his list down, Hilliman has schedule three unofficial visits which will take place in the near future. And the first one will occur on the campus of his home-state school.

"I'm visiting Rutgers on the 24th and 25th," Hilliman told NJ.com. "I'm going to talk to the academic people and try to see the side of Rutgers I've never seen before. I've seen everything about the football, the coaches, the facilities and all that. But I want to experience other things like hanging out with the players, get a tour, and get some unanswered questions answered."

What do you guys who have more experience and keener eye feel is the drop off if any between guys I see as Tier 1 ala Hurd and Mixon and Hillman? I am just curious.

Mixon is the kind of guy who can do it all. Might be the best all-purpose back in the country. And I mean that in the truest sense of the words...sometimes backs that get listed as APBs aren't thought of as highly because the connotation is they can't run between the tackles. Mixon can literally do it all. He and Scott are two guys any program would be lucky to have. I was also a HUGE fan of Elijah Hood as well but he is committed to ND.

Hurd is built more like a WR whereas Hilliman looks more like an Antonio-Pittman-esque type of back. I'm on record saying I'm not sure Hurd is a true RB at the next level. I would have loved to have him but I think there is a reason some schools were recruiting him as an ATH. I mentioned in the Elijah Hood thread that there have been far more backs who have had great success at under 6-3 than there have at over 6-3. That is a bit of a concern for me when it comes to Hurd. Even in some of his junior highlights, Hurd is lined up at WR. He has tremendous change of direction in the hole and great vision. He's got that "twitch" they always talk about when it comes to DEs. When he rips a gap, he looks like he has been shot out of a cannon. That's the kind of explosion you need in an Urban Meyer offense. It will be interesting to see what Butch Jones does with him.

I like Hilliman's ability to show a little wiggle either in the backfield or when he gets to the second level. Doesn't cut on a dime but can certainly make some guys miss. He seems to have decent top end speed and has a solid stiff arm. Not necessarily a home run threat from anywhere on the field but he has the ability to find a hole and get up field. He doesn't have quite that same "twitch" that Hurd seems to have. You can see the difference in the two when each is running a counter.

Having said all of that, I don't see a huge need for a true RB in this class, especially after they took Elliott, Marshall and Wilson last year and already have Campbell committed in this class. I have to think 1-2 end up working with Coach Drayton. But if they do end up with Hilliman, I won't be complaining at all. I think he is properly ranked as a high 3-star.

It seems that mr. Hillman and the Osu staff have a mutual parting of ways. This was kind of inevitable, and I wish the best to him. We're far too deep at RB to realistically go after Hillman, Nixon and Scott may be the only RBs in this class we go after, and I doubt the staff is even going after them that hard. Hillman seems like a smart, high character kid that will fit well in any of the 3 schools listed by MDs post

"High character" and Miami should not be discussed in the same sentence. The other 2 schools, maybe.

True. Didn't mean to include Miami, but I honestly don't see him going there after getting yearby already. My money is on rutgers

Rutgers recruiting: Top N.J. RB, Jonathan Hilliman, high on RU after visit; to decide the week of August 12
By Todderick Hunt, NJ.com

Jonathan Hilliman would add to the Rutgers offense something they haven't had for a long while, now: A big, bruising running back who does his best work inside the tackle box. The 6-1, 235-pound St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) standout took a visit to Rutgers campus, Friday, with his mother and father, and left with a better idea of what the Scarlet Knights have in store for him... if he were to choose to go there.

The Jersey City school representative holds upwards of 30 offers, but Rutgers' most serious competition appears generated by the Ohio State Buckeyes. But with the Big Ten's top dog in position to land a number of their top targets, teams in competition for some of these prospects' services are sitting right where they need to be.

"I only had one day at Rutgers and a whole weekend at Ohio State. And I might have seen more at Ohio State because I was there longer. But I got just as much, if not more information at Rutgers than I did that whole weekend," he said.
