No. 60 prospect stands tall at NBPA 100

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Class of 2014 center Elbert Robinson (Garland, Texas/Lakeview Centennial) was literally the big man on campus during the morning session at the NBPA Top 100 Camp held at the University of Virginia. The 6-foot-11, 270-pound lefty was terrific from start to finish, highlighted by a game-winning jumper in sudden death.

A showing like his on a stage of this magnitude will likely expand the list of teams in the hunt for the No. 60 overall player in the ESPN 100.

Right now, Robinson lists offers from Georgetown, Kansas, Ohio State and Louisville, among others. With his rebounding and defensive prowess, combined with his overall size, we may be looking at the first of many high-level performances and the start of an intense recruiting battle for this stud.

"Rebounding is what I think I do the best," Robinson said of his game. "[But] I have to work on my footwork."

Big man Elbert Robinson sets Louisville visit

While it's sometimes difficult for big men to dominate in a camp setting, Elbert Robinson found ways to boost his stock by staying on the block.

The 6-foot-10, 265-pound post player from Lakeview Centennial (Texas) averaged 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds at the camp.

While he still needs to run the floor more effectively and become more mobile on the offensive end, Robinson's ability to carve out a spot on the block and make himself available for entry passes is impressive.

?I'm outrebounding people, fighting on the block, fighting for position,? Robinson said. ?Scoring the ball, blocking shots.?

Georgetown, Kansas, Ohio State and Louisville are among the schools in pursuit.

?Next month, I plan on going to Louisville on an official visit,? Robinson said.

A decision will likely come by the end of the fall.

I was at Myrtle Beach with my team this weekend and saw Robinson several times. Honestly, we weren't that impressed with him. He is an excellent passer for a big man but he is a pass first big man and his post moves are limited. He scored better during the weekend session but struggled in the first tournament averaging only 4 points a game. Conditioning is a factor as his minutes are limited and he labors up and down the court. He's definitely a project and would not contribute immediately but there certainly is potential there and you can't teach size.

Robinson may be the most likely get for OSU for a C in the 2014 class, certainly having three coaches visit Robinson today (first day coaches can visit since August 1) shows he is #1 priority. I am thinking OSU is in good shape to get Robinson. He is considered like the 5th best C prospect in his class and I think he is a great prospect to become a Derrick Nix type of big man who can be a real tough customer in the post in a few years but will take some time to get there.

Seems like OSU's chances of getting a higher regarded big are fading, I think that's why all the coaches are visiting Robinson today - he's the best they can get in this class.

But altogether I think Robinson would be a great fit for OSU considering they don't have to have an instant impact big man in the 2014 class with Amir and Trey still there most likely, and that would give him a year to develop before he would have to play a lot of minutes. I don't think Elbert is going to be ready to play a lot of minutes at the level you need to be at to play on a top-10 team as a freshman. But he would be a good player to platoon with Bell I think because Robinson is more of the big physical type and Bell is more of the athletic type and they could mix and match them depending on the matchups. And I think he is the type of big that will really make some big strides as he goes through college.
