Buckeyes start play in the ‘South’ Region in Mackey Arena in West Lafayette.

Oral Roberts features the nation’s leading scorer, Max Abmas, who shoots 43.3% from 3 and 89.9% from the line to average 24.2 per game.

As a team, they lead the nation in made 3s per game (11.3) and in FT% (82.4%). They are also the lowest rated team in the tournament in defensive efficiency.

Buckeyes are favored by 16.5. Just win and advance.

Is Kyle Young expected to clear protocol by then?

Young took an inadvertent elbow to the head from Trevion Williams during the second half of Ohio State’s overtime win against Purdue in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament, stayed in the game for a few possessions, then exited to once again get evaluated. Eventually, he was diagnosed with a concussion, forcing him to sit out both the semifinal and championship games. The starting forward watched the Buckeyes beat Michigan on television, FaceTiming the team after the win, then was in the locker room to see the loss to Illinois on Sunday.

Where Young will be at 3 p.m. Friday is an unanswered question. Holtmann wasn’t ready in the aftermath of the championship defeat to declare whether or not he’ll be ready to go for the first-round NCAA tournament game against 15th-seeded Oral Roberts.

“I don't know yet on him, to be honest with you,” Holtmann said. “I don't, I don't know. And I'm not sure when we'll know specifically on him.”

March Madness 2021: What to know about every team in the NCAA tournament bracket

i

Ohio State Buckeyes

Just after Ohio State rattled off road wins over Rutgers, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Maryland, the NCAA tournament selection announced its top 16 seeds through Feb. 12 and the Buckeyes had secured a No. 1 slot. But a four-game losing streak entering the Big Ten tournament ended that dream. Still, the run was proof that Chris Holtmann's team could fight through a tough stretch and beat good teams outside Columbus, Ohio, the same task the Buckeyes accepted in their run to the Big Ten tournament title game, and the same one they'll try to pull off in the NCAA tournament. Duane Washington (15.3 PPG) and E.J. Liddell (16.0 PPG), however, can't do it alone. The Buckeyes will need better interior defense, a problem against the league's top bigs, and consistency from Kyle Young, who scored 18 points in a February win over Maryland but didn't record double-digit points again for a month after that effort.

THE NATION’S LEADING SCORER

THEY DIG THE LONG BALL

Oral Roberts leads all Division I college basketball teams this season with 11.3 3-pointers made per game. The Golden Eagles have attempted 29 3-pointers per game, the seventh-most attempts of any D-I team this season, but they also have the seventh-best 3-point field goal percentage, converting their shots from beyond the arc at a 39 percent clip.

DON’T PUT THEM ON THE LINE

WORST DEFENSIVE TEAM IN THE TOURNAMENT

Oral Roberts allowed at least 79 points in each of the five games it’s already played against NCAA Tournament teams this season, all of which it lost. The Golden Eagles fell 91-64 to Missouri, 85-80 to Wichita State, 83-78 to Oklahoma State, 79-65 to Oklahoma and 87-76 to Arkansas.

A ROSTER FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD

Should not have too much trouble in their first two games... Where I am, I usually get the Big 5, Big East, and ACC markets.

Villanova's best player (Colin Gillespie) is out for the season (MCL tear), so I think Winthrop upsets them. Purdue in turn will knock off Winthrop, then Baylor takes care of them.

On your side of that bracket- I think Utah State is better than people think, and knocks off Texas Tech. I believe Arkansas still runs that "40 minutes of Hell" defense, or at least they did the year they beat my alma mater in controversial fashion a few years back. Arkansas is always a tough out.

You shouldn't be challenged before Arkansas in the Round of 16. Based on what I've seen, Virginia Tech and Florida have really been inconsistent.
