#1s vs. #2s at practice

My first thread, I was just thinking with all of the Juniors returning for another shot a glory and with the incredible depth on next years team at seemingly every position the practices could be incredibly spirited and really help the team prepare for not only next year but for years to come.

There will be size, speed and depth at nearly every position to the point that except from an experience standpoint there may be very little drop off from first string to second.

The starters will be pushed and the youngsters will learn from potential All-Americans at several positions. Couple this with the excellant coaching and wow the possiblities are mind boggling. The spring game (specially considering the incoming, early arriving Frosh) should be very competitive.

I'm just so stoked for next year, we need to start a countdown clock.

Anybody here think that by the end of the season, with some experience that our scout team could compete with some B10 first and second teamers.

I remember hearing about how the 1959 Frosh BBall team (Lucas, Havilicek etc) used to beat up on the varsity and that the Super Sophs (Kern, Tatum etc) drew rave reviews and gave the upperclassmen all they wanted when they were on the freshman team.

The depth on the O and D lines, as well as DB, LB, heck even WR and RB will really push the Starters and give them some good competition in practice. Also this will teach the youth on the scout teams what it takes to compete at the highest levels.

What an awesome time to be a fan of tOSU

Remember those pompous USC fans talking about their starters getting to practice against the 2nd best team in the nation while they were in the middle of their ESPN-hyped "dynasty"? What a bunch of turds... well they haven't been back since, though you wouldn't know it.

Let's hope the RS sophs and juniors not starting picked up on the feeling of dropping 2 straight NCs, and let's hope all the 2's stay hungry in the offseason waiting their turn for another year. A good amount of the backups were already here, already learning from these guys, already giving them their best. I'd say that the Brew Crew are the ones that need to get the work done up front and improve because they all know there'll be a few spots open for them quickly. It would be good if these guys came in and pushed the 1st team D-Lineman from jump street.

I think the most important thing for the 1's and especially the seniors is staying on an even keel. It's a long season at the end of a long career at OSU, and it's going to be a very emotional ride. I'm going into next season with a lot of guarded optimism, hoping that they're not putting too much pressure on themselves to get back where they were a 3rd time. Their biggest obstacle will probably be themselves. They've given themselves and us a lot of great memories, and I just hope they never forget to just enjoy themselves on gameday. I think I'm looking most forward to this group welcoming Rich Rodriguez into this rivalry the same way they sent LLLoyd out.
