Game Thread (2004) Bowl Game: MasterCard Alamo Bowl - Oklahoma State - 12/29/04 (W, 8-4/4-4)

I went to an early game in 2003 and a guy about five rows back booed real loud a couple times. I remember turning around to get a bead on the guy and seeing other people shared my discust, one guy saw me snarling and said "real fan isn't he." We'll I made the decision that if he booed like that one more time I was going to jail. Luckily he didn't he might have noticed by stern resolve. He has the right to boo but not annoyingly enough to ruin my experience.

There is a reason I kill the phones, blinds and don't answer the door during the Buckeye game. I tell people it's so my psychosis is not so public. I doudt i will ever go to a game at the stadium again it's just too risky. I would love to see the team sing carmen ohio though.

On a side note a poster on bn a couple years ago was posting heavily on that sight for every one to show class to the visitors. So he went to "the game" with the determination that if he saw any shenannegans by overzealous buckeye children he was going to whip some butt. During the pregame a large group of mich*gan fans were booing at a buckeye pre-game thing. He got so mad he said he was the meanest one to all of them. I still laugh about that all the time.

Thanks JWil

First, thanks for your posts. They were a nice addition to the board. Sorry about some of our uncivil buckeyes; it is true, we would boo the pope.

I was surprised OKSt came out throwing and stuck with it. I can't recall three running plays in a row from them. There was a reverse play - a handoff to a WR I think - man did that guy have some jets.

A lot of football analysts said the OHSt D would match up well vs. OKSt's offense, especially touting tOSU's ability to stop OKSt's running attack. Maybe the OKSt coaching staff saw it the same way and put together a gameplan heavy on the pass. In hindsight, the OKSt coaches asked too much of their QB, who really had no business throwing 30 times in the game. In the end, I don't think it would have mattered how they ran the offense.

The often-maligned OKSt defense turned an acceptable effort, given the bad situations their offense kept giving them. We tOSU fans are still reveling in the re-birth of our offense, but we still have a ways to go.

Again, thanks for your input. I appreciated it. Good luck in '05.

I think fans from other schools add to the board. I read your last Blog and

while you looked at the numbers, you didn't look at the progress of the team.

From our point of view we knew our potential and our growth in the last few

games.

Welcome aboard.

Hell, I remember college gameday coming here Michigan saturday the NC year, people were throwing all sorts of shit at Herby, and that was when he was a good guy :)...most of the crowd was chanting for him, but two or three dicks threw shit...it was before any picks too, but I'm pretty sure he pciked OSU anyway

That would be great if ya'll stay around... It's nice getting feedback, and discussing what is going on around college football.

I too am shocked that the O opened up that much... Our D (when they don't arm tackle... ie scUM last year :( ) is the strength of the team, and the boys came to play.

How did you guys react to all the bad pub from ESPN regarding the "out of control" program you played?

JWil,
Have to disagree with your assessment of the Ohio State offense. I think that the offense is on it's way to being very explosive, but I've thought that before, so...

Remember that Justin Zwick had a badly pulled hamstring and would not have played if Ohio State had a back up (again, Thanks Troy!!). He was playing on one leg for all intents and purposes.

The offense put up 33, which any Buckeye fan will tell you, is like 70 for another team.

"a handoff to a WR I think - man did that guy have some jets."

That guy is Prentiss Elliott. He's our version of Ted Ginn. We just didn't feature him as much this season... just like we didn't feature Billy Bajema, our stud TE, enough this season... there was a lot of that on offense this season. lol

As far as the crazy Ohio State sideshow... I thought it would either totally distract your team or unite them. It's obvious what happened. Lots of pride on that Buck team. Wish I could say the same for my OSU.

A pleasure having y'all around. See we're even trying to learn the lingo to make you feel welcome. Being in the lubricant business I feel the best chemists in the business are Ok. State grads.

i'm into lube as well, but more as an end user.

anyway, yeah it was a hell of a game! i was surprised by okSt.'s showing...i expected more..but it makes me feel good every time i hear someone else acknowledging our D...i mean someone that saw it firsthand...

Though I didn't appreciate the Ohio State fans booing EVERYTHING Oklahoma State folks did at the Alamo Bowl pep rally on Monday night. (WTH??? lol)
There are less than 2,000 members here at The Planet, and not all of them are Buckeye fans. The reason I come here is because this site is not very representative of what alot of Buckeye fans are all about. Most of this board is made up of former/current tOSU students that understand the traditions and integrity of The Ohio State University. Alot of Buckeye fans are just bandwagon fucks, like OU, Miami, and scUM fans are. Sorry to hear about the lack of respect from Buckeye fans at the Alamo Bowl pep rally, but the cold hard fact is. Alot of Buckeye fans are just jackasses, that I'm embarrassed to be associated with.

Jwil...I was at the pep rally and I don't remember any booing??

Heard alot of O..H..I..O but not booing. Heard alot of Oklahoma cheers but no booing???

Your talking about the rally at the Amerson River Theatre Friday night about 6:30. It was very crowded and most people could not get a seat so they lined the walkways to it. Backed up clear past Rhein Steak house.

I remember an Oklahoma fan somehow making his way high up on top of the stone wall above the stage with an airhorn and leading Oklahoma fans in a cheer!

Oklahoma cheerleaders had a contest with Ohio State Cheerleaders which Oklahoma won. Oklahoma had about 3 guys still holding their female partners by the feet when the last Ohio State group gave up.

Brutus was off to the side kicking the balloons and when on stage did his usual worm walk thing.

The players that spoke were Simon Frazier, Matthews (great dancer), Schlegal (was wearing shades) and Fox. Ohio State band would kick into a song right after each player spoke which dragged it out alittle. The band was ready to kick into another song when Tressel was ready to speak. Thats why Tressel told the band to wait a minute and that he didn't raise his baton yet. Tressel said it was going to be a very physical hard fought game. His usual diplomatic self.

Oklahoma fans shouted their O..S...UUUUU which sounded alittle like our cheer starting out. At the end both bands came back and faced each one for battle of the bands.

Oklahoma and Ohio State fans were very friendly to each other of what I saw on the Riverwalk. Met and talked with several Oklahoma State fans while sitting at a bar waiting for our table! They wanted to change channels from Sun/Spur game to Gonzaga BB game. Great people!
BTW Tressel was even cracking up at Matthews when he was dancing.

Honestly, I don't remember any booing during that rally and I sat about in the middle, 6 rows up.

Pride,

Your credibility would be helped a lot by adding a 'State' behind each reference to the team/school. Certainly in the eyes of those wearing Orange at the rally and/or the game.
