I agree, we didn't see anything from Smith other than his running ability that would make me put him ahead of Zwick. On the same token, he wasn't give much of an opportunity to show and neither was Pittman for some reason.
Tressel is going to stick with Hall. He has the experience at RB. After Pittman fumbled, he was done for the day.

That wasn't a fumble, just a bad whistle and a BS review...

Part of the problem is these kids are afraid to make mistakes and they play not to lose instead of playing to win. One mistake, ok, make the same mistake more than once or twice and that is a different story.

PSU offense: 73 plays...255yds...3.5ypp....10pts
OSU Offense: 52 plays...185yds...3.6ypp....7pts

Two equally shitty offenses but with Robinson at QB we are the better passing team(take that with the largest digestible grain of salt you can find).

In all technicality, it was a fumble, as he was not down yet and the officials had not blown the whistle for forward progress.
His forward progress was clearly stopped and his legs were not moving. The whistle should have been blown.

The intent of review should be to make the play stand correctly...

I think the offense has been so bad for so long that any positive plays make it look like we might be turning things around, but then you look up and we have 7 pts and 185 or so total yds.

The whole situation is completely unacceptable. Miami, OU, USC dont seem to have this much trouble reloading. scUM and Iowa right here in the B10 have done a better job of a total rebuild job than we have done.

The skill players did look a bit better today, there was even an occasional hole to run through. Playcalling was vintage "3 and out plus a punt kills 5-7 minutes of game clock" Tressel. Fine when you have a great D and Punter, asinine stuborness when you don't.

Forward progress is a judgement call made by an official. If the whistle is NOT blown, it is still a live ball. Regardless of what we think.
Still belies what the intent of what replay should be and that is to get the play correct. No doubt in the Wiscy game it was a fumble regardless of the whistle. No doubt Pittman was stopped, regardless of the whistle.

How much of that is running out the clock, and how much was penalties? My guess is at least 10 of those plays were 2-3 yard runs to end the half, game, or to keep ourselves out of trouble (like on 3rd and 23). Plus, lots of penalties, especially on some big gains. Without those two holding calls, that's at least a 60 yard swing. So.... that'd be almost 5 yards a play, and nobody would be complaining. Stats are great, but you have to reason them out to mean anything.
