Game Thread (2004) Game Ten: @ Purdue - 11/13/04 (L, 6-4/3-4)

I think our last two games and our success in them rest on our improvement mainly and not the other teams. If the confidence continues to grow as the confidence in Troy's playbook management, calls at the line of scrimmage, et al continues, we should stand a good chance of eating steak this Jan.

The surge in play of Youboty, Rehring, Ginn, Hawk....well, it seems the gellin' has started at just the right time of year- NOVEMBER!! :osu:

Good point on possibility of a tired D against Orton. As with NW, Orton is going to spread Bucks, pass 60% or more and run to try and keep our D confused. He's gonna plunk us to death mixed with deep passes. He is excellent at rolling out to extend his look at receivers. This is going to play hard on our D. If our O doesn't sustain fairly decent drives...and this year's history says that's difficult, then Purdue will control ball in the upper 30 minutes, compared to Buck's mid-20's. Translation: A giant 2nd half challenge for our Defense, imo.

What if Orton doesn't play? And if he does play, what if he's not 100%?

Orton would probably hurt Purdue more than it would help them so I wouldn't put money on Purdue/Orton if Orton is playing. Kirsh might be the better option for them, but I don't really care who plays for them because they're both pretty good.

I pray for five great, long, bone crushing, time consuming, Offensive drives that take the spirit out of the Purdue defense. Finish them off by scoring
(some FG's but mainly TD's). The one thing I have missed this year is those good long offensive drives that build confidence for the offense.

And if BK27 says we win by 50 [sarcasm]IT's GONNA HAPPEN !!! [/sarcasm] j/k BK27

Purdue played a soft schedule early. It made Orton look like a star. He's not a star. He's the same guy we beat last year. We aren't the same defense though. Everyone got on the Orton train because he was one of the only returning QBs in the Big 10. Well...he is good, but he isn't God. And now he's not even 100%. So to me, this looks a lot like 2003 and 2002 and 2001. We beat Purdue in a close game. We seem to have Purdue's number since Brees. One thing that I like is the fact that Purdue has lost all their big home games. I think their defense is overrated. We should be able to stop the run. Our secondary needs some picks. If we secure the ball and can at least keep our defense off the field for good chunks of time, we are going to win. I just hope we don't get a lot of 3 and outs and hurt our defense.

The news is saying Orton is 50/50 for the game saturday. Either way Purdues' offense is going to try to spread OSU's defense and tire them out. If OSU can disrupt those short timing routes they'll be ok. Their running game is ok but I am not worried about that. I just hope OSU's offense can finally put some good drives together and get a balanced running/passing game together and eat up alot of the clock.

Does anyone know that status of Pittman and Donte Witner for this game??

I'm very encouraged by Simon Fraser's performance last week. If we get penetration and get a Jack Tatum hit on either quarterback a few times, then I think we can get those picks.

I don't think we should be thinking Ginn can repeat last week. But the fact that Purdue thinks he might may well open the field for Holmes and for Mo Hall. I don't think Purdue is going to give up, this game is their season now. But I think they will give up if we put a hurtin' on 'em early and keep it physical.

My dream outcome, a three touchdown lead in the fourth quarter and a well-established running game so that we can get some guys rested for next week. I know, I know, but allow me my illusions!

Topsy-Turvy Game vs Purdue

My gut feeling is to expect a topsy-turvy game vs Purdue.

Some kind of major triumph or slide in each quarter.

Still seeing the Buckeyes getting over on Purdue, at least one QB taking a mjor hit from Kudla or Fraser. Our LB Corp playing stiff run D (which will be a key -- make 'em 1-dimensional).

Through the 3rd and 4th Q's our D starts to take over the game and affords the opportunities for good field position or scores. I also believe this may be the game in which Nuge makes important strides toward that scoring record through PAT's AND FG's.

The spread -- well tOSU wins, so the Bucks Beat the Spread. More important I think they beat the over-under, largely through their own efforts.

I'm putting back the gizzards and bones till next weeks Buckeye Augury.

I agree mostly Sandgk. With the spread teams it will always be topsy-turvy. I think the comments from Stubblefield say a lot- the Boiler O-line is not solid this year, and the QB's and Recvrs have been paying the price in blood.

I think they do not improve enough for our def (who is surging(!)) to get a bead on whoever is under center. Their run game is unimpressive and ours may hit stride saturday. I hope the coaches have tweaked some plays for our not- so secret weapon...G-Money

The line is bull.

I'll be shocked if Orton doesn't play - all this 50/50 stuff may be a smokescreen. After all, Purdue's season is on the line. But the Buckeyes are going to circle the wagons and come up with the win.

Ohio State - 26
Purdue - 21

'68Flask - Yeah - Ginn in either form (weapon or decoy) can help the cause.

One other thought for this game. I think Buckeye Anger and general PO-edness at this weeks MoC soap opera gets our boys out there with strong attitude. Channel that Wrath.

I saw this earlier - headline had me worried.
'Bout ten seconds into the article though and BIG GRIN for GINN.

I don't see how Purdue's poor DBs and Linebackers are gonna be able to stop slant routes, hitch and goes, and such from three speedsters (Ginn, Holmes, Gonzalez). I think we are going to see a big catch from Anthony this game, and holmes is actually going to overshadow Ginn because he is the lesser threat that they leave open more often :)

I can't wait to see them blitz against our three wide.

I also think Hamby is gonna finally get involved in the game if the LB's are as poor as advertised.
