2005-2006 Latest Men's Basketball Rankings (Currently #6)

Well, 'Cuse knocked off UConn today and Temple beat GW... we move up at least one there due to GW losing

who cares? GW is a nonfactor when it comes to OSU's seeding. At best they were a 3 seed, now they are probably a 4. Same w/ UConn. They are a #1.

The rankings are meaningless at this point. The UConn and GW results didn't effect OSU at all.

It doesn't serve a true purpose yes, but it would be nice to finish the regular season finished in the top 5 simply for bragging rights.

Although you are correct, it is satisfying for many to see a higher ranking in polls and good for recognition.

nobody said they thought a higher seed would get them into the tourny. the only thing the tourny does is tell you who is number 1 at the end of it. if you are top 5 going into it and don't make it all the way.....at least you were top 5.

I doubt recruits mind seeing that they would be playing for a top 5 team, especially if they are a top 5 for multiple years, as it will get them more recognition. Granted they'd rather go to an NCAA champion I'm sure, but it is still important for recruiting....although with Matta we probably don't have to worry about recruiting much

If only the rest of us possessed your knowledge and insight.

We'll just have to settle with being a bunch of clueless posters discussing basketball rankings, seedings, and games with absolutely no idea what we're talking about.

But I prefer being a member of that group, as opposed to being a pompous ass who takes every opportunnity to mock others on a message board.

Uh, didn't you mean to say a pompous, clueless, spiteful ass who dwells on the misfortune of others? Just checking for the sake of accuracy:biggrin: .

I learn every day from Tibor. In fact, you could say he's my personal hero.

Here I was foolishly thinking that, no matter how we do in the tournament, the Buckeyes will enter one of the most important recruiting periods this year when they recruit for the 2007/8 team. I thought it might make a big difference to some kid sitting on the fence if, prior to that great class of recruits, we already had achieved a top 5 ranking, won the Big Ten, etc. Top 10 is great but some kids may not take it as much of a recommendation.

I also foolishly thought that Coach Matta might be more likely to impress parents if he gets these guys into the top 5 and gets that Coach of the Year Award.

Thanks to Tibs, I am straightened out and flying right:roll1: .

Oh, and don't you worry, I'll be berating myself the rest of the afternoon over my stupidity.

Come to think of it, it just feels right that we have Tibs here on Chuck Norris' birthday.

I'll bet our players and Coaches (who were doubted by most, if not all of the so-called "experts" pre-season & early/mid season and looked past by many of their own fans) take pride for every spot they move up in the national rankings. And team confidence is nothing to sneeze at going into the Tourney.
