Ohio St.'s SOS was 4th in the nation while Oregon's was 47th. I don't think there will be that much of a difference between ND's schedule and Louisville's/West Virginia's. I could be wrong but I don't think it's a smart idea to say ND has more control of their destiny than UL/WVU.

ND's is supposed to be in the top 10. WVU's is in the sixties. I think UL's is around 40ish.

NEW YORK Ohio State, Southern California and Michigan top the first Bowl Championship Series standings, putting the Big Ten powers and the Trojans in control of the national title race.
The first-place Buckeyes and third-place Wolverines play in Columbus on November 18th. If they can avoid a major upset before then, the winner of that game is all but assured of a spot in the B-C-S title game.Second-place U-S-C has the toughest part of its schedule ahead of it, but if the Trojans remain unbeaten they'll most likely play in a third straight championship game. The top two teams in the final B-C-S standings will meet January Eighth in the title game at the new stadium in Glendale, Arizona, that will also be the site of the Fiesta Bowl. For the first time, the B-C-S title game will played about a week after the four major bowls -- the Rose, Orange, Fiesta and Sugar. The 7-and-0 Buckeyes have a commanding lead in the coaches' poll and the Harris poll, which count for two-thirds of a B-C-S average. Ohio State comes in third behind 6-and-0 U-S-C and 7-and-0 Michigan in the computer rankings used to come up with the other third of the B-C-S average.U-S-C is Number two and Michigan is third in the coaches' poll. In the Harris poll, Michigan is Number two with a slight edge on the Trojans.Auburn is in fourth place in the B-C-S standings, ahead of unbeaten West Virginia. Florida is sixth and unbeaten Louisville is seventh.Notre Dame, Texas and California round out the top 10.

NOTEWORTHY:@ Ohio State is 58-8-1 when ranked as the nations No. 1 team. ... Jim Tressels record with the Buckeyes is 57-13 and his career record is 192-70-2. He is 44-4 at Ohio State when the Buckeyes score 24 or more points. ... The 2006 team is the 20th Buckeye squad to start a season 7-0. ... Antonio Pittman scored his eighth touchdown of the season, a 2-yard run in the first quarter, to surpass his total of rushing TDs from 2005. He has a TD run in 12 consecutive games after scoring one in his first 17 games. ... Troy Smith's two TD passes gave him 40 for his career, joining three other Buckeyes with that many: Art Schlichter (50 from 1978-81), Joe Germaine (56 from 1996-98) and Bobby Hoying (57 from 1992-95).

The computers don't like Texas at all, and I don't blame them - the Big 12 is weak this year. I also don't see a one loss Texas jumping a one loss OSU, and against a one loss Michigan, the voters would have to choose between rematches anyway. You're right about Cal; I was assuming they lose to USC.

It's as you say - unlikely, but possible. Tantalizingly possible.

It's interesting, as far as our victory over Texas is concerned, that although their SOS will continue to decline due to the weakness of the Big 12, they are still ranked #2 on Sagarin's predictor, which is the most accurate predictor of an actual outcome of a game.

Maybe they meant/said #3 in the computer polls, which tOSU is. Nobody believed tOSU would be #3 in the BCS.

Actually that's not 100% true methomps. There was one commentator (Trevor Matich) who said, twice, that OSU would be #3 in the BCS poll. This was during the Pittsburgh vs UCF game, played on Friday night, aired on ESPN. Clearly he was wrong, and others tried to correct him, but he came back and said the same thing again. This was while he was arguing that Florida with their tougher than anyone else's schedule would, if they won out, be more deserving of #1 status than any other team. This happened as mentioned earlier on Friday, before Florida was upended by Auburn. But I can assure you that Matich's statements left little room for interpretation - he clearly believed that the BCS ratings, not just the BCS computers, would have OSU rated #3.

Ok, one poor scrub who ESPN drug up to cover Pitt and UCF is different from "ESPN claiming"

I agree on that and the others tried to correct the mistake, but I have to give the ex-BYU player his due, he did stick to his thesis, no matter how flawed it might be.

The computers have always loved ND....

That's surprising. I assumed teams like Stanford, Air Force, and MSU were really going to drag their SOS down.

As long as Michigan, Penn STate and Georgia Tech win, ND looks better and better to the computers.

In the human polls, they will be a while/need some help to crack the top 5, but the computers have always loved ND and they will continue to do so....

BCS is Big Three ... then everyone else

By Brad Edwards
Special to ESPN.com

There are seven undefeated teams remaining in Division I-A, but three have clearly separated themselves from the pack. And unlike past years, when three unbeaten teams atop the BCS Standings would have caused much national consternation, this situation holds little potential for controversy. There is such a large gap between the BCS averages of the top three teams and everyone else, that those three -- No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 USC and No. 3 Michigan -- might as well be alone on an island. Unless two of them lose, there is no chance for anyone else to reach this season's BCS National Championship Game.
And since the Michigan-Ohio State game on Nov. 18 guarantees that at least one of them will lose, it's nearly impossible for any of the three to finish with a perfect record and not be in the top two of the final BCS Standings. So, at least for now, there's no impending controversy.
