Maybe one of you Stuebenville shills could post his season numbers to see how they compare against the others. It's pretty hard to argue against his record as a starter and 2 championships(I'm counting a win).

Not sure how you can call him the best player in the state, and not even close, when he plays a different position than the others. Maybe he can be compared to Wendal. How do their numbers look side by side?

I've never seen him play but would agree that if he was clearly the best player in the state, he would be getting more attention than mid-major Mac teams.
First of all, you have to understand that Big Red is, traditionally, a smash-mouth running team. Our tailback, Tamawi McGhee (verballed to Toledo before the season), is averaging nearly 10 yards per carry on the season. Also, the Big Red coach (Reno Saccoccia) is known for pulling the starters very early.

Piqua's Saine named Ohio's Mr. Football

Piqua's Brandon Saine, already the fastest sprinter in state high school track history, can add the title of Ohio's 2006 Mr. Football to his resume.
The 6-foot-1, 219-pound running back won the state's most prestigious prep football award in a close vote by a panel of sportswriters from across the state.
Saine, who will play his college football at Ohio State, has amassed 2,035 yards rushing and 30 touchdowns on 281 carries through 14 games this season. He has 19 pass receptions for 345 yards and five TDs, plus 400 yards in kickoff and punt returns.
Piqua has a 12-2 record and plays Pickerington Central (13-1) at 7 p.m. Friday in Massillon for the Division II state championship.
Despite his hulking size, Saine has run the 100 meters faster than anyone in state history ? 10.34 seconds. He is the two-time defending state champion in the state big-school 100 and 400 meters. He won the 400 last year in 46.88 seconds. His 10.34 100 was No. 4 in the nation for the 2006 track season. Last March he also won the 60-meter national championship at the Nike Indoor National Scholastic Track Championships in Landover, Md.
He is the fourth area player to win the Mr. Football award in the 20 years it has been awarded by the Associated Press. The others were Ryan Brewer of Troy (1998), Curtis Enis of Mississinawa Valley (1992) and Bob Hoying of St. Henry (1990).
Other finalists for the 2006 Mr. Football award were Macedonia Nordonia running back Jordan Mabin; Olmsted Falls quarterback/defensive back Tyler Sparks; Colerain defensive back Eugene Clifford; Toledo Central Catholic wide receiver/defensive back Dane Sanzenbacher; Steubenville quarterback Zach Collaros; Johnstown Monroe running back Marcus Hendren; and Galloway Westland quarterback Kasey Wendal.
Individuals for the Mr. Football award are nominated by media panels from six districts throughout the state.

Piqua's Saine named 'Mr. Football'

OSU recruit has piled up huge football stats to go with his state track titles; all that's left is Friday's final game.

PIQUA ? It took Piqua High School football coach Bill Nees a couple of loud yells and a whistle to get the attention of his players.
When everyone finally did listen up, he gave the announcement they had all been waiting for Wednesday. "It's official guys, Brandon Saine is Mr. Football."
Not only the team, but the crowd gathered at the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant? where the squad was being treated to a free meal ? gave the 6-foot-1, 219-pound running back a huge round of applause.
Saine, who has signed to play at Ohio State, is the 20th winner of the Ohio Associated Press Mr. Football award.
He didn't officially get the news until Nees received a phone call Wednesday. "It's a pretty amazing feeling," Saine said. "I felt like I played well enough to deserve it and we played well enough as a team. But you never know until it actually happens.
"I couldn't have done it without the offensive line (Ben Davis, Lee Middleton, Adam Grissom, Kyle Perkins and David Spiggle). They've opened awesome holes all year."
Through 14 games, Saine has gained 2,035 yards on 281 carries and run for 30 TDs. He's caught 19 passes for 345 yards and five TDs and has 400 return yards and a kick return for a score.
Piqua (12-2) meets Pickerington Central (13-1) in the Division II state final Friday night.
His resume not only includes the Mr. Football award, but the state record in the 100-meter dash (10.31 seconds), four state track titles and a national championship in the 60-meter dash. Saine also carries a 3.6 grade-point average.
"Brandon is a great football player who is also a great sprinter," Nees said. "He's got the speed to turn the corner on people, but he'd just as soon run between the tackles and hit people."

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Piqua's Saine is Mr. Football
Thursday, November 30, 2006

Brandon Saine's first inkling that he was different from everyone else came when he was just 11 or 12 years old. "Back in Little League football they had a race of all the kids," said Saine, announced Wednesday as the winner of the 2006 Associated Press Mr. Football award. "The winner of that got to race the coaches. I raced the coaches and I beat all of them."
A two-time defending champion in the state Division I 100 and 400 meters, all the OhioState-bound Saine did in football this fall was rush for 2,035 yards, score 35 touchdowns and lead Piqua High School to Friday's Division II state title game.

Add me to the bandwagon that believes ratings by recruiting services are meaningless towards this award. They tend to be based on college "potential" while Mr. Football should be strictly about High School performance.

That being said I don't think it should just be based on pure numbers. There are players who have been dominant on the field without putting up gaudy numbers.

I don't think the Ben Mauks of the world should win the award every year just because they have the luxury of being in a system that puts up big numbers.

collaros stats to date 128-191 65% completions, for 2268 yards 27 touchdowns, 3 interceptions. 645 yards rushing 119 carries, avg, 5.4 yrds per carry. 13 touchdowns. 29 wins in a row led team to 2nd state championship in a row, passed for 6 touchdowns in semifinal game, defensive interception for a 100yrd return in regional final, agains dover. Mr, Footballs Numbers. 2035 yards 35 touchdowns. collars way more inpressive in my opinion
