NIT announces new format for Season Tip-Off tournament

INDIANAPOLIS -- Each team in the NIT Season Tip-Off will play four games next year under a new format that includes third- and fourth-round games at campus sites.
The change, announced Monday, will be the third in as many years to the format of the 16-team preseason tournament.
In 2006, first- and second-round games were played at neutral sites for the first time since the inaugural tournament in 1985.
The NIT moved the first two rounds to participating campus sites for this year's tournament. Each team will play twice, but only the four second-round winners will continue playing in the semifinals at New York's Madison Square Garden on Nov. 21.
Next year, the 12 teams that do not advance to New York will be seeded and assigned to three campus sites for two more games each.
"Over the past two years, we committed to study the environment and evolve the NIT Season Tip-Off and postseason tournaments to be attractive and meaningful to those who participate," NIT president Greg Shaheen said Monday. "This new format enriches the variety of game experiences for all of the participating teams, which benefit their profile at the end of the season."

It just dawned on me that we have 11 more games we could schedule for non conference if Matta wanted. Outside of the preseason NIT which as an exempt tourney only counts as one game we have 9 OOC foes and 18 Big Ten games which makes for a 28 game schedule, one under the NCAA max of 29 games in a season.

Florida had a blow out win yesterday. Not only that, but they seem to be getting good play from their bigs. It looks like they have a few guys around 6'10. I hate to say it, but it looks like it will be a tough game when Ohio State plays them. It would suck to go 0-4 against Florida in basketball and football.

We have them at home...They are a solid team, but not a team with a lot more talent than us like last year...

Minnesota game March 1

The Buckeyes? game at Minnesota in two weeks was passed over by CBS but picked up by ESPN and will be played at 4 p.m. March 1, the Big Ten Conference announced today.
CBS chose to televise Indiana at Michigan State at 2 p.m. March 2. That game could have championship ramifications.
The Ohio State-Minnesota game could have postseason ramifications, however. The Buckeyes currently are in fifth place in the Big Ten, two games clear of the sixth-place Gophers, and are on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Ohio State has six conference games left and at least one in the conference tournament after that.
