2007 Cavs Free Agent/Trade Rumors

Big Papa

Urban!!!!
Alright, now that the season is over, what rumors have you guys heard. Who do you want to see the Cavs go out and get to put this team over the top? Do you think we should mess with the current roster? How about our current Free Agents? Do you resign Varejao or Pavlovic or neither or both?

Personally I would really like to see the Cavs try to get that true PG. A trade for Bibby may be a little much, but I would like to see it as much as the next Cavs fan. I can't see us bringing him in though without giving up someone like a Drew Gooden. How about Earl Boykins, there has been some rumblings about him opting out of his contract with Milwaukee or a sign and trade. I would like to see the Cavs definitely bring back Andy, Sasha would be nice too, but I would rather see them focus on a PG.

Yes they should trade and acquire players. I also would not rule out trading anyone but LeBron and Gibson. Anyone else would be trade bait as long as we improve the team overall.
I agree too that they focus on the PG position.

No way Gooden goes to the Bulls not after the way he played this post-season.

Gooden averaged 11 pts/8 rebs a game in a very low-scoring playoffs which was 13% and 18.4% of team totals, respectively - do you mean that he can't be traded because he played too poorly?
Gooden to Bulls?

From the Chicago Tribune

Personally, I think Gooden was a valuable contributor in the playoffs, and I'd hate to see him go for less value or for nothing.
My initial reaction to that article was, NO FUCKING WAY do we send a guy that started for us and of Gooden's caliber to an in-conference challenger the quality of the Bulls. They are going to be tough enough next year, without adding a guy like Gooden. If Ferry did something like this, he is a moron and needs to be fired.

I can see him being traded, but it won't be to an in-conference rival. I can see him being in the discussions for a trade for Mike Bibby again.

I would trade him in a heartbeat for an out of conference player with his numbers and some D. No question about it.

You can't let Andy or Pavs walk. Personally I would like to see them stay with what they have along with the addition of a Boykins or Blake both of which they could sign with the mid level exception. A trade for Bibby would have to involve Gooden and probably Pavs, which I wouldn't be willing to do. Gibson and to a lesser extent Brown will be players next year and I don't want to sacrifice their minutes for another washed up overpriced vet. I say give this team another year or two to age and if it isn't working then they will be in a better position contract wise to make a move. They need a coach who knows how to run an offense and manage a game before they make major roster changes.

LBJ, Gibson, Pav are the big 3 that cannot be dealt no matter what.. while i like varejo and love his energy, for the right player i move him. everyone on the roster is fair game

i've heard rumors of trading up to #5 and grabbing conley, also have heard redd, bibby, kidd trade scenarios.. but the 3 in pav, gibson, and lbj are young and good enough to build a helluva team around

and trade mike brown

I agree that I would like to see both Andy and Sasha back, just don't know if it is doable. A MLE for Boykins or Blake would be OK. I don't know if Bibby is the right PG for this team. I have heard that he does not push the ball up the court, and it seems to me, they need a PG that is going to do that. One that is active, speedy and pushes the ball up the court quickly. That would seem to benefit LeBron and Larry's games the most. I would like to see Boobie at the 2 more than running the Point, though if we do not have a prototypical PG next year, him or Larry at the Point really does not matter, as the Cavs basically run an offense that does not revolve around the PG in any way. Any one of 3 guys could be bringing the ball up the court at any time. I disagree that we should wait it out another year, especially not 2. We only have LeBron for another 2 years guaranteed, I think, then he can opt out correct? If this team has not improved and has not been back to the Finals, I really don't see LeBron staying in Cleveland. I'm not sure he will stay in Cleveland past his next contract anyway. He will ride off the NY/NJ to be with his buddy Jay-Z and play in the large market, make the big dough and be the "global icon" that he wants to be. The clock is ticking on Cleveland winning a Championship, to me it either needs to happen next year or the year after or LeBron could very well be gone, along with any hope of Cleveland Championship.

Conley on this team would be a dream. Would also love to have a shooter like Redd, still pisses me off that we did not get him as a FA and ended up with Hughes. I think everyone on this team is on the table, except LBJ, obviously. I like Boobie a lot, but I am not convinced he is untouchable. I can not see them replacing Mike Brown, but they definitely need to bring someone in who can run an offense and have Gilbert/Ferry tell Brown, this is your Offensive Coordinator.

ALong the lines of what exhawg said:

The Dealer had a blurb about the Cavs possibly looking at Mike Bibby. And if that doesn't work out they could be looking at Earl Boykins (a Cleveland native). Apparently Bibby could be open to a sign-and-trade that would send him to the Cavs. If not, they could go after Boykins, who is likely to become a FA on July 1st.

Eric Snow needs to hang it up and get on with his future coaching career.

IMO Lebron wouldn't be building a $20+ million house in Bath if was was planning on leaving. If he left he would be about as welcome in Cleveland as Art Model. The Cavs can offer him more money and years than anyone else so he would basically have to take less to play elsewhere. How is Kobe enjoying being in a major market?
This team is young and made it to the Finals this year. They will do nothing but get better over the next 3-4 years. I would hate to see them give up one of their good young players for anything less than a sure thing. If I were the GM I would have to have a great trade brought to me if I'm going to pull the trigger. Along the lines of Gooden and Varejao for Tony Battie.
