2007 Heisman Trophy Discussion

How many QBs have won a Heisman that their team was not in the National Championship hunt? I think that's an interesting question.
Was it Andre Ware in "89"? Last? And I don't think he should of won. System QB. I would have given it to Anthony Thompson.

Aw c'mon - when people try to draw these fine lines between one player or another it ends up being simply silly. If it were that damned easy other QBs would be doing it, calling their own number from 2 -5 yards in.

Tebow, McFadden, Dixon, Brennan - all good players. But, I don't see the need to downgrade any of them to upgrade one's choice.

Or to put it another way - have you got something positive about your choice that does not demand a contrasting, negative, statement about another candidate?

Example - I think Tebow should get the Heisman because his tally of 29 TDs by air and 23 TDs on the ground is unprecendented in the modern era of Division 1 (now BCS) Football. In fact, it is the first time it has ever happened in NCAA football. He is unquestionably the best overall player in college football.

Good job.

Congrats TT. Well deserved for a great player.

Tebow's TD Runs (yds): 1 3 16 7 5 9 6 2 9 2 2 3 1 1 5 1 3 2 5 2 23 5
McFadden's TD Runs (yds): 12 1 5 56 2 4 2 3 1 2 2 80 16 73

Tebow=68% of Rushing TD's 5 yards or less.
Mcfadden=64% of rushing TD's 5 yards or less.
Is there really a difference.

Uh, yeah. When Tim "Thank my Lord Jesus for everything" Tebow runs 56, 73, and 80 yards for a TD, then you can compare the two. Also, a QB has the distinct advantage over a running back inside the 5 yard line because a RB runs, while a even good QB can either pass or run.

Oh yeah, when Tim Tebow accounts for 63 TDs in a season, then he can be compared to Colt Brennan.

Funny, I thought that's what DMC did too... especially in the red zone.

re: religion whining... would you care if he was thanking his biological father instead?

Let's take a look at the 'hawaii-esque' portion of UF's schedule, and how many tds Tebow scored: W Kent 4, Troy 5, Miss 4, UK 5, Vandy 5, FAU 4, FSU 5. Extrapolate that average over 12 games, and he registers 54 tds. in the same zip code, imo.

BTW, there sure are a LOT of late 3rd (and 4th) qtr blowout TD passes in those 2006 hawaii box scores.
When Brennan is surrounded by an SEC offense and has an SEC defense behind him...
The only thing 'SEC' about that defense is the speed... in the mold of Zbikowski, that is.

So you're knocking Tress for continually not using the easier "QB runs for touchdown" gambit and instead going for the much harder "Beanie run it in" stratagem? :slappy:

Make Tim face the 120th ranked strength of schedule and he'd be very happy to oblige.

System QB.

To be honest, I have no problem with the way the voting turned out. My issue is this system "stuff". Every college team has a system. That's what makes college football the greatest sport of all. The diversity of watching the spread, the option, West Coast, traditional I, multiple sets, run and shoot... that's what makes college football so intriguing. Watching teams try to defense these offenses is also enjoyable. But, in the end, great players are great players. Great players enhance and shine in the system designed.
