Engineering School Rankin???

Not sure where anyone heard Barksdale chose LSU due to their undergraduate program in Engineering but I truly doubt that was the real reason. There were 3 schools in his home state in the top 50 that he chose to not attend. Two of those in the B10. Further OSU has a very good Engineering program. No idea why he is going to LSU, but it is not academics.

This is the article where Joe refers to the academics playing in his decision.

It certainly was football, and LSU's fine engineering program, that grabbed Brennan's and his parents' attention.

You can read more in that article...not disagreeing with you at all, just letting you know where people are getting that from.

We are leaving the Barksdale thread closed for the time being...too many trollers still making waves.

Those rankings are based on student reviews and have no credibility at all. USNews rankings are pretty much the standard in academic rankings. According to this, top three in engineering are MIT, Stanford and Berkeley. tOSU is in top 20 (among public universities). LSU's web-site says only three engineering programs are ranked with highest being 50, so they should be pretty low.

Here is a more complete list USNews' Engineering rankings.

tsun is 6
OSU is 26
A slew of other B10 schools are listed as well, and LSU isn't in the top-50.

This is no surprise though -- as stxbuck noted -- unless a kid goes to a real academic powerhouse over a football powerhouse, academics probably had nothing to do with it.

'07 recruiting pool may take slight dip

OSU might bank extra slots for future class

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

It's an oversimplification to say that anyone mining Ohio for football talent this year got the shaft.

There were plenty of nuggets to be found, just fewer true gems.

14. Ohio State Buckeyes

Headliners:
Brandon Saine (RB)
Eugene Clifford (S)

The big fish that got away:
Anthony Davis (OT)

The Buckeyes are stockpiling more talent, although it seems things would have been a little easier on the recruiting front. Still, top notch prospects like running backs Brandon Saine and Boom Herron, wide receivers Taurian Washington and Dane Sanzenbacher, defensive end Solomon Thomas, defensive tackle Cameron Heyward, linebackers Jermale Hines and Brian Rolle, safeties Eugene Clifford, Nate Oliver and Devon Torrence and cornerback James Scott are coming to Columbus.

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL
Title-game trips haven?t produced top recruits

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Until top prospects Jermale Hines and Cameron Heyward stepped forward in recent weeks to become part of the Ohio State 2007 football class, Buckeye fans were having flashbacks to the winter of 2003.
Back then, with the recently won national championship trophy on the mantel, everything should have been going right for the Buckeyes. But on national letter of intent signing day, everything went wrong, at least in terms of a big finish.

The biggest thing about our recruiting shouldn't be the ranking but how did we fill our areas of need? I think we did an excellent job of grabbing players who could contribute early and often except maybe the DL haul, but we don't know yet who is making a switch from DE that will solidify that group. Otherwise I think we had a good year. I also would've maybe liked getting O'dowd in this group if we hadn't held out for A. Davis but you can't win em all.

The biggest thing that I have noticed in the last couple of years is the character of the kids. Brandon Saine is an excellent example. I certainly have no clue on character topic personally with these recruits but really like what is being printed by the coaches and people posting that go to school with them. We tend to just focus on the measurables because it is really the only way websites and scout and rivals can compare the number of high school seniors. I will take hard working, class acts that may be a tenth of a second away from a five star rating any day. Part of the enjoyment with our Basketball team as well. Congrats to the staff and again the fence went up around the state of Ohio. Add this class with the number that redshirted and look at the whole picture. Glass is very full and OSU will be underdogs next year while Michigan and Wisconsin need a year like our 06. Not easy being the top dog for 13 games!! Go Bucks
