2008 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Well, I think we can all agree that Oklahoma has never recovered in the eyes of the media for going 1-2 in Championship games. And 0-2 in a row. I mean, SC blew em out 55-19. That's almost as bad as 41-14. Almost.

FLorida State too... they went 1-2 from 98 - 2000 and by 2001 everyone knew they were a fraud. Preseason Top 10 ranking in 01 surely attests.

it's only fair.

Are you saying you think that will happen to tOSU? With our game against USC on the horizon of the 2008 season, I doubt we'll be that far behind...I'm thinking the #5 spot. All we have to do is beat USC and we're on our way to the NCG again. People said it wouldn't happen last year, and then amazing things happened to the ranking that last week.

I just can NOT stand Pat Forde. He said nothing worth saying in that entire article.

Unfortunately, the number of people who will agree with Forde is growing. It is now an imperative to win at USC. Get thrashed there and it will be a big enough deal to keep an undefeated or one loss Big-10 one out of the trophy game against a similarly situtated or worse SEC team.

May not be fair, may be wrong, but that will not sway the voters in the poll that decides who plays whom. I said before the game that it was an unimaginably huge game for perception purposes. While I feel your pain, I am not being an SEC homer when I say that the perception cannot be dismissed as the rambllings of uneducated ill informed assholes....because it makes no difference if they are uneducated ill informed assholes so long as their uneducated ill informed vote is the one that counts, and it keeps you out of a title shot.

I hope you kill USC (W) next year. :oh:

What you said is (unfortunately) true. But I've heard people running their mouths just like Pat Forde in that article, and it's just a little bit tiring. I know it's what we have to deal with but still. I just wish I lived in an area with real football so at least the people talking junk to me the past couple of days actually supported a team that knew what winning was like. (I live in ACC territory...surrounded by NCSU and UNC fans. Ugh!)

I hope we kill 'em to. :io:

Sadly, we have reached the point where I have to admit that it would probably NOT be unfair. We need to STFU and play some ball.

But considering that we return so many starters from a team that made it to the Title Game, I like our chances to make it to Miami next year. The fact that we'll have to fight even more negative perception next year than we did this year even if we beat USC is just icing on the cake.:io:

More of a comment about how the media is apparently ripping Ohio State... Frankly, I haven't been reading it or listening to it, so it's just snippets I've gathered from posts here re: that subject. And, I did listen to some 1460 today and Speils was mentioning the media ripping Ohio State.

I'm with you. I'm tired of the whining about the media ripping us, we've earned every bit of it. Untill we beat someone of note on the field, deal with it.

I think you always have to use the <insert other team here> rule when it comes to these kind of things. If you tack those same results to USC, scUM, or Notre Ame, we'd probably be merciless. However, some of the shit I've heard such as Bill Platche "The Big 10 is as bad as the WAC" is a bit ridiculous. Had this game taken place in September, it wouldn't have been of much note. Nobody is saying that VA Tech and the ACC is as bad as the WAC (and that might even be true).

USC scares the hell out of me for that very reason. Pete Carrol as stated will show us no mercy at all if our team falls behind. He won't get conservative, he won't run the ball over and over, he'll just simply keep trying to score.
