2009-2010 Big Ten Bowl Season

Something that upsets me is how in all of our tie ins, we have to travel to the other teams territory. We play the Rose Bowl vs. Pac10 in Cali. Capital One vs. SEC in Florida. Outback vs. SEC in Florida. Alamo vs. Big 12 in Texas. Champs Sports vs. ACC in Florida. The other two, Insight vs. Big 12 in Arizona, which is near Big 12 territory, and Little Caesars vs. MAC in Detroit, which it neutral.

Wisconsin 20
Miami 14

Penn State 19
LSU 17

Ohio State 26
Oregon 17

Two losses by 4 points, one in OT.

Fuck the haters!

Go Sparty!
Go Iowa!

I don't know why I didn't notice this before, but Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports picked all seven Big Ten teams to lose.

I think Pat Forde also picked all seven to lose.

Am I missing anyone else who said 0-7?

Dennis Dodd is an idiot, and it's nice of him to remind us on a regular basis.

If NW and Minnesota weren't having a contest to see who could choke harder against shitty teams, this conference would be 5-0. No blowouts, no no-shows. Good bowl season for the Big Televen so far. I think only the Big XII has surprised me more.

If you're going to say Insight is "near" B12 territory, then, with scUM being less than 50 miles away, wouldn't Little Caesars be in B10 territory? Of course Detroit is pretty close to some of the directional Michigan MAC teams too.

I think that I am encouraged by the geographical proximity that B10 bowls have with our opponents territories. When we can go into their house and win both the game (for the most part) and in attendance (almost always), the wins have a better taste.

Yeah, thats why I said the Little Caesars was neutral, because its in both territories, very close to scUM and Eastern Michigan

Updated bowl prediction records for various media members:

Tom Dienhart, Rivals - 18-12
Colin Cowherd, ESPN Radio - 17-13
Todd McShay, ESPN Scouts Inc. - 16-14
Stewart Mandel, Sports Illustrated - 15-15
Pat Forde, ESPN - 13-17
Dennis Dodd, CBS Sports - 12-18

ESPN Accuscore Computer Projections - 18-12

Maybe Dennis Dodd and Pat Forde should invest in a coin or a dart board.

so 3-3 with Iowa coming up...

If Iowa win's it will be considering the best Big 10 bowl season in a long time with 2 losses of 3 or less points and a team that lost after they suspended 14 players and was in it until 4 min left.

Do it Iowa!!! Make it 4-3! And Finish up the Big Boy wins.

Bob Hunter commentary: Big Ten's image gets an instant lift | BuckeyeXtra

The Big Ten woke up in a different world yesterday morning.
In this new world, Midwestern football players are no longer lethargic and plodding, but powerful and strong. They no longer live in a storied past, but in a promising future.
Joe Paterno isn't a fossil, and Jim Tressel isn't just a tired disciple of Woody Hayes. They are the keepers of the flame in a proud conference in one of the nation's most populous regions, not a couple of poor schleps trying to keep up appearances while the best players move to the sunny, speedy South.
It really is amazing what a few wins can do for the region's collective psyche. They can't reopen steel plants, or sprout palm trees on the shores of Lake Erie, but they can temper the impression that the Midwest is about to board up its windows and close it doors. The population center of the nation has been moving south and west for a while now, and this junk about the demise of Big Ten football seemed to fit right in with the impression of a region that couldn't keep up with the times.

Big Ten Gets a boost from the Bowl wins.

I like the part about not growing palm trees on the shores of Lake Erie. Sounds improbable but if global warming continues who knows.

Not sure if it has been noted anywhere, but an Iowa win would mean that the Big Ten will have beaten 4 of the top 15 teams in the final BCS poll during the bowl season. All were underdogs at the time of the kick as well.

Wisky +3.5 vs. #15 Miami (FL)
PSU +1 vs. #12 LSU
Ohio State +4 vs. #7 Oregon
Iowa +3.5 vs. #9 Georgia Tech

I'll be cheering on the Hawkeyes, this would be quite an accomplishment from the top tier of the Big Ten.

I liked this part...

But if you're a player or a fan of one of those once-moribund Big Ten programs, the air seems fresher and the sun seems to be shining a little brighter today.

I almost feel sorry for all those skinny, speedy teams in the South and West. It must feel terrible to be so soft

Every time we play for the SEC Championship it is in Georgia.

Think having a Big-10 Championship playoff game in M*ch*g*n every year.

You put on your big boy pants and play the game. Hell, in '95 Nebraska would have still beaten us by 40 if we'd played the damn game in Gainesvile. You recruit good players, your coaches develop them, and they execute in the game using a good dame plan, you win. You fall down on any of those, and you look at the reasons why you lost. I think "playing in the home state of your biggest rival", or "playing in ____" may play a factor, but it is pretty far down the list of main reason why one loses.
