2009 Pac Ten Discussion

FYI - I can't stand USC, but the fact remains they are in the Pac-10 and have to be counted in the statistics.

Also, by looking at the numbers without USC in the statistiscs, the Pac-10 isn't getting completely ass-whipped by other conferences. They have a winning record against 2 of the 5 conferences you listed and are almost 50% against 2 of the remaining 3. So it's not like the Pac-10 without USC is getting stomped on by every conference out there.

I guess my point is that the commissioner is making that argument that the PAC 10 is the strongest conference; he makes several arguments to this effect. However, once you get more than 1 team into the PAC 10's depth, the arguments fall apart. It's hard to argue that the PAC 10, as a conference, is the strongest by using the arguments that he used because most of the strength lies in one team, not the conference as a whole. That's it. That's the extent of my point. I didn't say that the rest of the PAC 10 is terrible (there are some decent teams there). I don't even think we disagree, because it seems that we've both stated that once you're past USC, the rest of the conference isn't exactly awe inspiring.

If you were the commish of the Pac-10, you would use the statistics to your advantage as well. USC is the bread and butter of the conference and that's no secret to anyone. The commish is selling the positives of the conference. Can't blame him for doing his job.

I just want ASU to beat USC at some point in this decade.

But USC isn't going to get removed from the Pac-10, so the record is the record. I don't think the commish is going to base his numbers off of removing the best team from his conference so his argument is valid.

I wouldn't expect him to be touting the Pac 10's regular season record against the Mtn West in '08.

This is the year USC finally gets taken down in the Pac 10.

USC, IMHO, will lose FOUR games- at Ohio State, at Cal, at Oregon, and at Notre Dame.

They have unproven quarterbacks, their hyped offensive playmakers are highly overrated, and they lost too many defensive players.

I think this is the year someone out West takes down the big bully ala the Titans taking down the Colts in the AFC South last year.

I'll believe it when I see it, but I hope you are right and wrong. I hope they lose 5 games and ASU is the other team to beat them.

Uhhh... they have eight players on defense returning with a LOT of experience. The wide receiving core is sound, Havili is a major weapon, the running backs in general are studs, but I'll give it to you that the QBs are unproven. I think you're conjuring up some smoke gods, but I dig your enthusiasm.

Lastly, no way in hell does ND beat USC. Weis couldn't game plan for a major competitor in the college ranks if his last meal depended on it.

UofA can run Pac-10 - if they want to!!! Hahahaha

Here's a great quote from UofA DE Donald Horton:

"We can run the Pac-10 if we want to," defensive end Donald Horton said. "You look at the games that we lost last year, most of the big plays came just off one person not doing something. It wasn't like - boom! - we got blown off the ball or someone shook eight people. It was just one person."

Arizona fighting 'fluke' perception

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!! And I'm 10 feet tall... gotta love UofA dreamers.

No disrespect meant to a regular with a good rep - but weren't you calling for a bit more than 5-7 last season yourself?

Wasn't Corey Adams on his way to ASU to win the NC? Not as a Frosh certainly, but the 10-3 from 2007 was not supposed to be a fluke either.

Yes I was expecting more than 5-7 last year, but the post you replied to had nothing to do with ASU so I'm not sure why you are bringing that up??

Can I not poke fun at a UofA player for thinking they can run the table in the Pac-10? The UofA has never ran the Pac-10 in their existence and has never gone to the Rose Bowl, so to assume they can run the Pac-10 this year with a new QB is laughable.

I think ASU will be really good in 2011 when Corey Adams is a Junior. Most of the talent on ASU's team this year is coming from true Sophomores, RSF and true freshman. This is only Erickson's 3rd year as HC, and there wasn't a ton of talent at ASU when he took over - especially on the offensive line which was one of the biggest reasons we sucked last year.

I'm not sure what to make of USC's loss today. They lost to OSU after they played tOSU last year then won out. Was this an anomaly or is this the year they go to some POS bowl and get punked?
Lou Holtz said today to Corp would have a strong outing and take over the starting job from Barkley. I should've known right there that Udub was going to win. Damn, why didn't I call my bookie?
