To make that happen both Florida and Bama have to take ass-whippings in the BCSNC and Sugar Bowl. tOSU and M*ch*g*n were arguably ranked one and two when they both were humiliated in their respective games. If we are undefeated when we meet in the SECCG, it will be the exact situation leading up to the 2006 BCS bowl games.
Which is also impossible given the lay-up opponent that the SEC #2 usually faces...
We will see, and anything is possible. A loss by one will not bring about that media impression. We both have to lose big. And if one of us wins the BCSCG, then the SEC is a perfect 1.00 in BCSC Games, and the four in a row for the SEC will deflect any ass beating the other team may take in the Sugar Bowl...IMHO
Yup, because folks aren't capable of analyzing something as complex as two games not on the same weekend.

If Bama drew Cinci (which is still a pretty big mismatch when merely discussing talent) and lost convincingly, they'd probably still be preseason top-2 next year if Florida won the NC game... and chances are no stereotypes or labels would get branded on the crimson tide.

This year's SEC reminds me of the tOSU/Michigan 2006 campaign. I'm very intrigued to see what happens to the SEC media impression IF the bowl games end the same way they did for tOSU and Michigan that year.
There is absolutely no comparison between the OSU/UM politics and the SEC politics.

The SEC has become 5 times the bias/propaganda machine that UF fans complained about just 3 short years ago. In less than a calendar year, they would have a far bigger hype propelling them.

And they'd accomplish this by beating two programs labeled as choke artists, most of them declared unworthy of the stage afterwards.

While I get your point, you seem to discount the SEC BCS record. So say what you will, until the Big-10 or ACC or Big-12 wins three BCSCGs in a row, or approaches our overall BCS bowl game win record, there is something more than mere politics to justify that hype. It wasn't hype that kept the 60 point per game Okies from winning last year, but a damn fine defense.

C'mon man, give me just a little SEC love. :p

Of course you have scoreboard. I just find it interesting that if OSU had beaten Boston College in 07, they would have been downgraded for beating an unworthy NC opponent (and for good reason). But when LSU beats a suspect OSU team, it proves their greatness.

I think that lends credence to my soapbox about hype. It's quite rare that someone acknowledges that defense won both NC games. They are too busy enshrining Tebow for leading UF to two NCs, when he was a wildcat FB in game 1 and only had 1 good quarter in game 2.
C'mon man, give me just a little SEC love. :p
The greatness of the SEC is the depth of teams who can make a title run... but almost every year, the teams who aren't up for the run aren't that far ahead of teams from other conferences. Teams like LSU, Ole Miss, Georgia.

However, this year the "very good team" depth is down at all conferences imo.

And I'll be interested to see if a leading media representative openly cheers for a rematch - as he incorrectly did in 2006

The difference, of course, would be that in '06 there was not an undefeated Texas waiting in the wings.

Well we aren't at the end of the season yet - so we'll see.
Texas is perfectly capable of laying an egg in the BIG 12 Title game or in College Station.

Fire Richt? Beware the perils of the Quick Hook

So, those fans who want Mark Richt to start sending out resumes because he has lost the magic at Georgia might consider the cost of the quick hook.
If Cutcliffe is not a good enough example, what about Earle Bruce? He was canned at Ohio State (1979-87) after going 81-26-1 (.755) and winning four Big Ten championships. His successor, John Cooper, won three titles and needed three seasons more than Bruce to get them.
There are others. Pete Carroll was fired by both the New York Jets and the New England Patriots and within five years, he won consecutive national titles at USC. Bill Belichik left the Cleveland Browns and won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.
?For most good people, winning is enough. I was the exception,? Bruce said. ?You would have to know what the atmosphere was in Columbus, Ohio. I was not on the strong side of the ruling family. I?m not a political guy. I was a football coach, and the politics got me. It happens and there is nothing you can do about it.
?What kind of athletic director does Mark have? Who hired him? Did that president there now hire him? The chain of command makes every difference if you check coaching hirings and firings. Normally when there is a change in presidents and change in athletic director, that?s a problem. The athletic director was not a problem for me, but the president was. When the president got involved, it was politics.?
When Bruce was told some fans are urging Richt to replace defensive coordinator Willie Martinez, Bruce said Richt better beware.
?That's the start of the demise,? Bruce said. ?The next step is you.?

Ok how did Earle get involed with this one?
