2009 tOSU WR discussion (official thread)

Stoneburner is a lot faster than Hernandez. He's closer to the TE from Oklahoma. TE body, WR speed...

Good to hear about his recieving skills, but what about his blocking?

We use our TE's more for that than anything, how is he on getting inside of his man and taking him out of the play? Thats what I'm more concerned with in regard's to the TE unit.

Stoneburner is a WR. Why? Because he's gonna burn people like a WR, not a TE.

I don't think he'll ever be used as a traditional TE. If you check earlier posts in this thread, there was a debate about whether he will be lined up at the LOS or out wide. I tend to think that he will either be lined up out wide or at the HB position to get him matched up one on one against a LBer.

I had thought that he RSed because of an injury and that he had impressed a lot of people as a scout team WR/TE. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

Stoneburner had a stress fracture in his leg(I believe it was kinda like shin splints) and so he redshirted. He definitely turned some heads during bowl preparation and with his size and speed can become a serious red zone threat next year.

I think Corey Brown might get a serious look as a WR-he showed some impressive skills at the AA game.

He looked great in the AA game, but I think our depth issue is a DB, not WR. I think his first look will be on defense. (But then again, that's how TGII started too :))

I was watching Buckeye Blitz last night and they were talking about the receivers, Dee Miller said that Thomas has the same size, speed and skill set as Small so OSU will play him ahead of Small since he's younger.
I don't get that logic(?). Small, as long as he gets his stuff together, will start. Thomas has done little as a WR.

I guess the way he sees it is that they both will do about the same and it will be more beneficial to the team to have Thomas get the exerience this coming year and progress over the next three, then to have Small play for one year while Thomas sits on the bench. You could probably say that about a lot of postions though, like Sabino and Spitler at MLB.

Small has a long way to go to earn back people's confidence. Forget about being in Tressel's doghouse, if he gets on the wrong side with players like Pryor or Brewster, he's done as far as pt is concerned. Anyhow, I'm pulling for him as a player and as a person.

"Small made a couple bad choices along the way, with perhaps skipping classes."

I skipped more (way more) classes than I attended in undergrad and Law School; so, apparently, I'm a sociopath. I'm not buying the character equals attendance logic. Give the kid a break.
