2010-2011 Lady Buckeyes Basketball (Big Ten Tournament Champions)

With the lack of tournament success over the years, this seasons complete psychotic meltdown, one has to wonder if somebodies resume might need to be updated at the end of the season.

Sometimes we need to be careful not to forget who we are.

OSU women's basketball has had it's moments but has never consistently been among the elite programs. Foster's string of Big Ten championships is something to be celebrated.

I have the same problems as others with the way OSU has tanked in the tourney and can't express my disappointment with how this season has panned out thus far. And yes, I lay that at Foster's feet. But it may be wishful thinking to believe that the next coach can improve on what he has done.

Just as I could manage to work around Cindy Crawford's mole, so far as I am concerned Foster can stay till he is ready to leave - and do so with my thanks.

Great game by the Lady Bucks today! Maybe OSU should think about making the tickets $5 every game - it was a good crowd.

Unfortunately, we lost Sarah Schulze to a knee injury. I won't be surprised if that was her last game in scarlet and gray from the way it looked. :(

I think you might be onto something with the $5 ticket. I heard that they played with a lot more intensity against MSU and I don't understand why it is so long for this intensity to finally show up. According to Foster it looks like Sarah is done for the season.

Belief is a good thing, especially at the worst of times.

So Samantha Prahalis, who had kept the faith through a dogged and demoralizing team slump, wouldn't say that she felt relieved after the Ohio State women's basketball team upset Big Ten-leading Michigan State 67-53 yesterday in Value City Arena.

"It was something we definitely needed," Prahalis said. "But I wasn't coming in here thinking we were the underdog. We're the defending Big Ten champions. I still believe that.

"Yeah, we've had some rough times and we needed this. But hopefully, we're back on track. This needs to be a steppingstone to who we want to be. It has to be one game at a time, but this definitely is a boost for us."

For 40 minutes, the 24th-ranked Buckeyes (11-6, 2-3) outplayed the No. 9 Spartans (16-2, 4-1) in front of a crowd of 7,808, the largest gathering of the season. The win followed two consecutive conference losses, one of which snapped a 19-game winning streak against Northwestern.

The Buckeyes finally won by sticking together and limiting the Spartans to 29 percent shooting from the field. On the downside, they also suffered a probable costly loss in the first half when senior forward Sarah Schulze had to be helped from the court after suffering a right knee injury.

"The doctors will have to tell you about that," Ohio State coach Jim Foster said. "I'm not very optimistic."

Definitely seemed more intense to me. There were still a few head-scratching moments when rebounds hit the floor, MSU players were diving on balls with OSU players watching, etc. But overall I'd say it was a good effort. If we take away those moments, we could have run MSU out of the building - I wouldn't doubt if undeserved second chance possessions accounted for 10 of the Spartans' points. And I don't mean that in a negative way toward the Lady Bucks; it's more of an observation of our team's potential...

Brittany Johnson scored 22 points, and Cleveland Central Catholic's Jantel Lavender had 19 points and 12 rebounds as No. 25 Ohio State defeated Illinois, 71-62, in women's college basketball Thursday in Champaign, Ill.

After a slow start, the Buckeyes (12-6, 3-3 Big Ten) built a 38-29 halftime lead behind 15 first-half points from Johnson, who hit 5-of-6 from behind the arc.
Karisma Penn from Shaker Heights had 26 points and 18 rebounds for the Illini. (7-12, 2-4).

Lavender looking like Sully in the paint tonight, as the Bucks lead #21 Iowa by 13 in the second half.

Speaking of Sully, guess who is there and leading the cheers?

Can someone tell me why in the hell Foster has not played this Adams girl earlier in the season. This is a new BBall team. It took Foster 3 conference losses to figure it out. RON STOKE DAUGHTER IS AN AWESOME DEFENDER...

Our ladies have to win out if we want the conference title. It's a damn shame Foster let them lose to NW and Michigan before making some serious changes. That Adams girl should have been starting a longgggggg time ago.

I was thinking the same thing! It took Schulze getting seriously injured in order for him to figure out what he really had on his roster.

Adams had her knee scoped in the fall and was behind schedule at the beginning of the season. As a freshman, the mental and physical jump from a HS in Middle Of Nowhere, AR to the B10 is a big enough step without dealing with conditioning issues too. That said, I'm sure the staff is pleasantly surprised at how fast she's come on the past two games.

Anyone remember hearing how this freshman class was not good enough? How about giving Foster a little credit for finding a gem in Adams that NOBODY else pursued and all the recruiting "experts" underestimated. He took more than a few shots when he offered her last year and now he's an idiot for not starting her right away.

I wouldn't be surprised if this team has turned a corner here. They might even benefit from this spell of adversity when March rolls around, though that is definitely something they will still have to prove.

This is not directed at the poster I quoted but...

Thats a crock of fucking bullshit about the injury!!!! This is why you have the preseason junk schedule!!! Get all these young players some playing time. I'll add another thought...WHY IN THE HELL HAS sTOKES NOT GOTTEN MORE PT!!!!

Foster IMO was sleeping at the wheel. They finally told Sammy to stop shooting!!! When she stops shooting and start distributing theres no team in the conference that can beat us. If she passes like she did in the 2nd half we run the table hands down...

Adams and Stokes have impressed the hell out of me. The other freshmen Sanders looks very good. They play like they did last night they can make a finbal 4 but Sammy has to play like she did in the 2nd half.

Ashley Adams, native of Siloam Springs AR, is proof positive that poultry is not the town's only excellent product.

She comes from so close to the University of Arkansas; interesting we were able to lure her away from Hog Heaven. Looking forward to seeing Ashley in scarlet and gray for the next 3.5 years.
