2010-2011 Men's Basketball (Outright Big Ten & BTT Champs)

- Asked about improvement he's seen through the nonconference schedule, Matta said, "I think our defense is shaping up.

"One of the big things is continuing to build that and playing hard and seeing things before they happen. We?ve gotten better at that. We?re communicating on defense, and that?s huge to me.

"We?ve done a pretty good job rebounding the ball.

"These are all things we have to make a staple and not have to ask of them going into games."

- The Buckeyes' assist-to-turnover differential their past two games is 47-14.
"Hopefully it becomes a staple, moving the basketball," Matta said.

- Ohio State won its 13 nonconference games by an average margin of 28.8 points, only two by less than 18 points, none by less than 11.

Asked if he's seen enough to have a good idea how his team will react in a close game, Matta said:

"Florida State (a 14-point win) was a gauge. I thought even Florida (18) was because Florida is talented enough that they could have put a run on us.
"We?re trying to build how we want to play. It?ll be interesting as we move forward, and we?ll continue to teach and learn as best we can."

Purdue has adjusted to life without Hummel now, 13-1 after rolling TSUN and Northwestern. They could be our biggest challenger although I gotta figure Sparty will improve.

The only problem with Purdue is they only have 2 scorers...Ryne Smith can get hot from the three line but OSU will be harder to defend than any team they have faced.

College of Charleston is about to beat Tennessee.

:slappy:
The College of Charleston has a pretty good basketball team with a win loss record of 9-4 and their 4 game against some quality opponents. Tennessee does not have a very good team right now. They only beat Tennessee-Martin by 6 points. We blew out Tennessee-Martin by 60.

The Buckeyes likely will stay at No. 2 in the polls this week and remained No. 1 yesterday (ahead of Duke, Kansas and Kentucky) in the Pomeroy efficiency ratings. But the time is approaching when more-complete games are required for victory. They showed again at Indiana a habit of coasting with large leads.

"This game isn't over," coach Thad Matta had to remind them, forcefully, during a timeout with 4:36 left, after the Hoosiers had cut their deficit from 21 points to 14 in two minutes.
