2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

are they rattling the keys?
yes, and to expand on the above comments, they even have a cheerleader sign that reads key play.
I know at Mississippi State they bring freaking cow bells into the stadium and ring them the whole game.
except those actually make noise.
I say we go for the vuvazela this season....LOL
Fortunately our conference officials won't let us stoop to the level of the SEC, who is not only foolish enough to allow that stupidity, but are delusional enough to believe that they can limit it to only dead ball moments during the game.

I don't see the logic of bringing a 3 ft long yellow and blue painted plastic tube to Columbus with me if I were a tsun fan.

If OSU wins you are still likely to get it shoved up your ass/down your throat just for the sheer annoyance factor.

If OSU should lose those things aren't near sturdy enough to be used for self defense against the mob.

But hey, if you guys think it will help get across the message that you are better than everyone else, by all means bring them.

Watch out Buckeyes, there's a new Sam McGuffie in town.

'Wow' moments got Michigan commit Kellen Jones noticed

When Sam McGuffie came to Michigan as a running back out of Texas in 2008, he was a YouTube legend. He transferred to Rice, but it seems U-M has another player with a stunning highlight film.
Kellen Jones, a linebacker from Houston St. Pius X, gave U-M an oral commitment Thursday and his highlight reel is thrilling -- from jumping the pile near the goal line to stripping the quarterback to one-arm tackles and punt blocks during his nine varsity games in 2009.
Yet St. Pius X coach Jason Kimball said Friday the best highlight might not even be on there.
In a preseason scrimmage last year against Bay City (Texas) High School, Jones saw a sweep outside and reacted, hitting the tailback behind the line of scrimmage. Kimball called the hit "violent," bad enough to knock both players from the game and sideline Jones for a few weeks with a concussion. It hurt him and the opposing tailback, but it inspired the team.
"The first time the lights came on when he was at linebacker we knew," Kimball said. "There were wow moments and he continued to make plays."
The 6-1, 209-pound linebacker had the stats, too -- 75 tackles, 22 for loss, 17 hurries, six sacks, three recovered fumbles, four blocked punts, two blocked field goals, three forced fumbles, two TDs and an interception.
It all was enough to get U-M's Texas expert, assistant coach Fred Jackson, down to St. Pius X and begin recruiting Jones. Apparently it wasn't a hard sell -- the whole family was already U-M fans.
"He's already talking smack, drinking the maize-and-blue Kool-Aid," Kimball, an LSU fan, said of Jones.

Questions abound for Wolverines' Rich Rodriguez

Concerns include QB choice, his status

The Big Ten preseason football meetings convene Monday in Chicago, and Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez is sure to be swamped with questions.
Let's scroll through some of the major ones facing Rodriguez and this year's Wolverines:
What's the status of Tate Forcier? It's rare that a quarterback who started every game returns the next year in a competition for his job, but that's where Forcier finds himself. In the spring, he split reps with Denard Robinson -- and even a few with true freshman Devin Gardner. Rodriguez has always said the position battles are ongoing, and in the spring most of Rodriguez's comments about Forcier were about maturity and academics, not on-field performance.
Where does Rodriguez plan to find a kicker? The past two U-M kickers have been walk-ons, K.C. Lopata under former coach Lloyd Carr and Rodriguez and Jason Olesnavage last year. That's despite having a kicker on scholarship -- first Bryan Wright, now Brendan Gibbons. Can Gibbons grab the job? Will another walk-on emerge? Or could super-freshman punter Will Hagerup also kick?
What is the running back situation? There is no clear-cut lead tailback and the most productive previous back, Vincent Smith, is coming off ACL surgery. If healthy, Smith would be the lead back, but it's unclear who else is in a position to push him.
How do you compensate for Brandon Graham's absence? There does not appear to be an elite defensive end ready for this season. While there was spring progress from a number of ends, including Greg Banks, the defenders all admitted it will be a group effort. Although Craig Roh started all last year, he may play more as a linebacker this season.
Will the hanging NCAA investigation -- and missing Rodriguez, who will be in Seattle a few days during the first week of practice -- be a distraction? Michigan started 4-0 with the allegations overhead last season, but slumped down the stretch. Maybe the competition improved in Big Ten play, or the program got fatigued from the constant negative attention.
Where will the leadership come from? Graham and Zoltan Mesko were the vocal presence and eternal optimists the past two seasons, able to spin any negative situation forward. What players are prepared to fill that void? The senior class has only 12 players, and cornerback Troy Woolfolk may be the most likely to become a leader.
Is Rodriguez concerned about his job status? This question will surely be asked, but how would Rodriguez give an answer? His boss, U-M AD Dave Brandon, has publicly supported him at every moment and has said that a win total will not be the lone factor in his evaluation of Rodriguez.
