2011-2012 Men's Buckeye Basketball (Final Four Season)

billmac91

Head Coach
Ya, I'm ready to start it.

2011 was an amazing year. We lose Diebler, Lighty, and Lauderdale.

Potentially, we lose Buford.

I'm assuming Sully is back because everything indicated so far is that he loves Ohio State and they (the family) want him back as well.

With that being said, next year looks like:

Shannon Scott
Aaron Craft
William Buford
DeShaun Thomas
Sully

Bench won't be shabby with guys such as:

Amir Williams
Jordan Sibert
Lenzelle Smith
J.D. Weatherspoon
Sam Thompson

and LaQuinton Ross who could be a player at multiple positions.

This team will have the talent to go deep again. It just feels like a bad movie of unlimitless potential but no title.

We'll see....

i feel extremely confident that sully will return. as such, i'll make two predictions:

1. sully will return with more muscle, more endurance, and a proven shot out to 15 feet.

2. craft will return with a 3-point shot that must be respected.

If Buford and Sully return, this team will be, dare I say, just as strong next year. Okay, maybe not 35-3 strong, but a legitimate shot at another #1 seed and B10 championship IMO. Sully coming back would be huge because it gives Williams time to develop in the middle. I like the backcourt with Craft, Scott, Sibert and/or Buford. Buford and Thomas would be a formidable frontcourt...that's a lot of scoring together with Sully. Could be a really exciting team.

if sully and buford return, i would be surprised if the starting lineup is not this:

scott
craft
buford
thomas
sully

if sully returns but buford does not, then... well, that is tough. i don't think there is enough height if sibert replaces buford. i can see thompson cracking the starting lineup in buford's place.

whatever happens, we'll finally witness a season full of rotation. gone are the hero minutes of diebler and lighty.

even if buford and sully return, i don't think next year's team will match this year's. lighty's defense and diebler's shot cannot be replaced. i do expect, though, that nobody will want to face us after january.

i think we are going to see a shift in the offensive dynamic. this year's offense was based on passing and shooting. next year's defense should be based on penetration, with sully showcasing a face-up game.

Yeah, that's a lot of leadership/experience to replace. Nobody will replace Diebler immediately. But, Sully's only gonna get better. Thomas will be better. That's a lot of scoring in the frontcourt that should help offset Diebs. Plus, the Big Ten looks down a bit next year, so hard not to see the Bucks as a favorite. I don't know how things look nationally, but that's a strong team assuming Sully and Buford do come back.

agreed.

i may have to go back on my word just a little bit. if buford does return, i expect that tonight's game will be replayed in william's mind over and over during the summer. a source of motivation won't be questioned. he does have the tools to become our diebler next year, that is, a 50% three-point shooter in bulk.

then again, next year's team shouldn't try to be this year's team. as i stated, my guess is that we'll see a different offensive approach, which will yield another big ten title and a high seed.

You are replacing a spot-up shooter with someone with an all-around game which is kind of exciting...ok not really...watching Diebler pull the string from 30 was fun.

The new Bucks will be a different team but should be capable of a #1 seed.

Who else brings as much as the Bucks definitively?

The Dukies lose Nolan Smith, Kyrie Irving, and Kyle Singler

UNC loses Harrison Barnes and John Henson

Arizona loses Derrick Williams...peace

Purdue loses JaJuan Johnson...and they aren't deep anyways

Kansas will lose the Maurice brothers...peace..Shelby is also probably gone

Kentucky loses Harrelson and Knight

I don't know, I just think OSU will be right here at the end next year too...does that mean anything to anyone here? Tonight hurt me badly, but it is what it is...

Doesn't E'Twaun Moore also graduate for Purdue? I think Terrance Jones leaves Lexington too...but they're bringing in another insane class.

Yep.....I was just going off the top of my head. The Maurice brothers is also the Morris brothers after a second proof-read.

More the reason for the Bucks to be good though.

This is tough though...it just feels like you'd be better pff rolling into the tournament with a solid cast rather than fight for a #1 seed. What's the point to fight for a #1 seed? UNC, Syracuse, and Kentucky....ouch.

Anyways, for as tough as this loss was, think about the good basketball we see every year with Matta. It is almost unprecedented the amount of talent he has turned out the last 4 years. It is absurd...

Enjoy it Buckeye fan....

2012 Team could repeat?

If Buford does come back and joins Sully, Craft, Thomas and the 5 star recurits, it will be another banner year for the BB Buckeyes. They will have a much deeper bench and not have to rely on a "6 Iron" man stragety to get by.

Jared Sullinger says he'll be back at Ohio State next year

"I'm going to be an Ohio State Buckeye next year," Sullinger said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Winning is that important to me. I don't like losing. This is not what I came here to do."

Sullinger said seeing Ohio State's seniors distraught after Friday's loss to Kentucky was not the way he wants his college career to end.
