2011 Louisiana State Tigers Baseball

LSU takes game one of the Princeton series 8-2 to improve to 10-0 on the season.

Mike Mahtook hit his team leading 6th homer of the year.

as a team, LSU is slightly ahead of last year's pace for Homeruns.

helps that we've gotten mid spring type weather at The Box these past 2 weeks. winds don't normally shift that direction till later in the season.

the winning streak ends at 11 games.

Princeton takes the third game of the series 8-7

down 8-1, LSU mounted a furious comeback, scoring 6 in the 8th.
loaded up in the 9th with only 1 out, but couldn't push one across.

Glad they never quit, but they probably needed this to remind them they can't sleep through the 1st 7 innings of a game.

through 12 games, paid attendance at the Box is 127,778

only 10 teams (including LSU) sold that many tickets for all of last year.

Fullerton and Florida at home the next 2 weekends (and 1 mid week game against nobody) should put us above the 205 K mark, something only 5 teams managed to do last season.

That is ironic since they say that Louisiana State is the "Princeton of the....uh, of the...uh...east side of Baton Rouge"!

beat Sacred Heart tonight 6-1

next up, a 3 game home series vs. Cal St. Fullerton

calling for beautiful weather all weekend, should see some big crowds, and hopefully some good games.

ah man that would be an awesome series to go to as a casual fan...one day I will make it down there

Should be a great series. Unfortunately, I can't get to any of them.
Hoping to go to at least on next weekend when the faggots from gainesville come to town.

Game 1 of the LSU/Fullerton series doesn't disappoint.
Tigers win it 7-6 in a wild one.

LSU took early 3-0 lead.
Fullerton small balled their way to a 4-3 7th inning lead.
LSU jumped back in front 7-4 with 4 runs in the 8th.
CSF got 2 more in the 9th to close within one, and had the tying run on 2nd.

LSU Closer Matty Ott recorded his 30th career save, putting him in 1st place on the LSU career list.

In the 9th, there was a brutal collision on the basepath.
LSU 2nd baseman (JaCoby Jones) was charging a grounder, and collided with a CSF runner.
both guys hit the deck hard.

Jones got up fairly quickly and stayed in the game.
CSF runner stayed down a little longer, but was able to walk off the field with help from a couple teammates. looked a little woozy, possibly concussed. Hope the kid is okay.

LSU wins game 2 by the same 7-6 score as last night.

Mikie Mahtook had a pair of great catches in centerfield.

Matty Ott adds to his career saves record.

Geaux Tigers!

P.S. we coulda used Spencer Ware today (he's with the football team for spring practice now) in the 8th. needed to put some speed on the bases, and he is by far the best base runner we got on our bench. still managed to score the winning run, but would have been easier with a faster guy.
