Congratulations to the Men's Volleyball Team on winning the 2011 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP!

Setter Steven Kehoe was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2011 Championships, which were held at Recreation Hall on the Penn State campus. Ohio State was the #3 seed, advancing to today's finals after defeating the host Nittany Lions, the #2 seed, on Thursday night.

The Buckeyes opponent was UC-Santa Barbara, the #4 seed that advanced to the final by beating the #1 USC Trojans earlier Thursday evening. Before today's match, tOSU was 0-7 all-time against the Gauchos.

In the best-of-five set match, UCSB won the opening set 25-20 with the help of numerous service errors by Ohio State. The Buckeyes won the second set 25-20, and moved to the brink of the title by also taking the third by a 25-19 margin. UCSB battled back to win the fourth set 25-22, setting up a winner-take-all 5th set, which meant that the first team to 15, with a 2-point advantage, would claim the title. On Championship point (14-9), Kehoe blocked a kill attempt by UCSB to set off an on-court celebration which carried over to the tOSU-dominated crowd.

Once again this year, the crowd included 3-time All-American and NCAA Champion (at Stanford) Bryn Kehoe, who this year watched her brother win an NCAA title and be named the MOP. Last year she watched the Buckeyes fall in the semis to Stanford, who defeated Penn State in the final to claim the 2010 title.

Shawn Sangrey also had an outstanding performance in today's title match, pounding a career-high 30 kills to drive the Buckeyes to the title.

What are the "main" college men's sports?

Football *
Basketball *
Baseball *
Hockey
Wrestling
Volleyball *
Tennis
Golf *
Gymnastics *
Swimming *

I know we've won national title in the sports with asteriks. I thought we had won a national title in wrestling also, but I guess not. Hopefully our tennis team will bring home a national title this season.

I wonder if any school had won national titles in all the above listed mens sports...

I believe that there are only two that can boast simply football, basketball and baseball with out checking the numbers I would imagine tOSU is in a class of its own.

Michigan and Ohio State are the only two that have won in football, basketball and baseball (Cal if you count a pre-polls football title), so Michigan would be the only possibility for having won in all those.

Actually the Ohio State Wiki page states that "The Ohio State University is one of only four universities to have won a NCAA national championship in baseball, basketball and football"...it doesn't mention who the other three are. I know Michigan hasn't won a national title in volleyball yet, which offsets their having a national title in hockey (where we don't...yet).

This, to me, is the coolness of it all. :banger: Congrats coach. Well earned culmination of a long career. Nice to see the good guys win.

Stanford would also be in the group if their 1926 football title is included. Alabama also claims that year (no surprise), but the two teams actually tied in the Rose Bowl after that season.
