2011 Offensive Line Discussion

To put it nicely, they were by far the worst position group on the field Saturday. Granted, the QB's need to get rid of the ball faster but still it seemed like I was watching 5 fucking bullfighters out there.

Bingo. Blaming the players is woefully misplaced. An offensive line of all-time greats wouldn't have been able to get any yards against MSU when the playcalling is so predictable that Dantonio basically knew what OSU was doing on each play and was able to stack the box and run blitz accordingly.

One of the Mich St players, the Dt from Springfield OH who had 3 sacks basically said that the knew the snap count and were all jumping the snap better than our O-line. I don't have a link but it was during Michingan st. post game.

Definitely not the lines fault. They were bringing 6-8 guys and they knew our snap count. Braxton also needs to improve his pocket presence which resulted in some pressure. The times they weren't bringing pressure i felt our line did a very good job.

Herbstreit today absolutely excoriated the O-line. He was very emotional. Anyone who thinks he isn't still a fan should listen to the podcast.

He seemed to have a very bleak perspective on the remainder of the season, also. "Debbie Downer" would about describe him.

I get there were a lot of issues, and Michigan State was blitzing more than Nazi Germany. But, there were defensive tackles in the backfield before our guys were upright. You can't dismiss the sub-par performance simply because poor or no adjustments were being made. They still did not play well... They still got pressure at the end in prevent... Come on...

Did he mention that the coaching staff didn't put the players in a position to succeed, or was he too busy placing all the blame on the kids in his "analysis?"

I don't recall that he was explicit as to whom to blame; merely that the performance was terrible and that in his opinion there needed to be a "just hit someone gotdam it" attitude on the line. But I'd recommend you listen yourself to the podcast if you want an accurate view.
