2011 TSUN shenanigans and arguments (off season)

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department reports finding a man's body washed up on the banks of the Olentangy River just outside of the Horseshoe. The dead man's name will not be released until his family has been notified. The victim apparently drowned due to excessive alcohol and narcotic consumption. He was wearing black fishnet stockings, stiletto ankle-strap 5-inch heels, a red garter belt, a pink g-string, a strap-on dildo, blue lipstick, and a Michigan football jersey. He also had a cucumber in his rectum. The sheriff removed the Michigan football jersey to spare his family any unnecessary embarrassment.

This website kills me..but may offend some.

Stuff like that has no business in a football thread, even one called TSUN shenanigans. I deleted the link (it dealt with religion, homophobia, and I didn't read it long enough to know what else).

Basic Recruiting Philosophy

*You don't get 'em all*

U-M has gotten it's share this year, and should get a couple more... but you don't get 'em all.

BTW, just as we enjoy it when our foes'-fans have conniptions ... so do they enjoy when WE DO ... so try to avoid that ... try HARD to avoid that.

Hoke is building "the team, the team, the team" type culture at Michigan. Any kid that takes a visit for some nike gear (Brown) or doesn't have the common courtesy to call the coaches when his schedule changes (diggs) will be dropped. Diggs is NOT wanted at Michigan....period. He showed his character, or lack there of.

Hoke is building this team in the trenches and with a focus on playing for each other and for Michigan. He will recruit kids with CHARACTER. As a result, we will be competing for championships for the next 10+ years.

Any kid that chooses a place like Ohio over Michigan is not a kid you should worry about. That kid will NOT fit into the team, the team, the team.

Ohio may have more 1st round picks over the next 10 years but they will NOT have more victories nor will they have more championships.

If you can't get on board with Hoke's philosophy then my advice to you is to stop following recruiting. If not, please refrain from any thread attacking Hoke.....just roll over to the commit list and watch some film
**not really...**

respectfully ... notreally

they went back on in Pharaoh Brown, visited him at his school ... it didn't work out at THAT point

and they've been 'begging' Dunn to visit ... as they did Kalis

And they went after Diggs ... again, it misfired

And now they're going after elsewhere-committed kids -- here, there, everywhere...

So you have a nice storyline, but it's not the real world

The recruits are the customers, the recruiters are the salesmen - period

There is a different in 'how far a school will go' -- but it's a matter of degree, not black-n-white
*well, he's no dummy*

U-M went right in on Kalis and Dunn when OSU got in trouble ... that's the way it works

However, the guys he's going after are 5-star guys remember (Dunn, Diamond, Diggs), so he's smart there too

They ain't payin him $7mil per for nuttin
nope... Drake Johnson ... they didn't get along with Garmon
BoSchemblogger wrote: Do we have a back up plan for Dunn if we don't get him? Greg Garmon from PA?
Elsewhere in response to GBW saying UM lost its lead for Dunn...
I hope we get them all. Dunn is an interesting case and has the potential to be a huge player for the Maize and Blue. That takes nothing away from the other players Michigan is recruiting. We need those positions as well. I have to wonder at this point if Dunn is just a tad bit leery of competing with other Michigan big backs. He certainly will not have that problem at Ohio. Problem is the big backs sit under Myer anyway.
:slappy: Who is he afraid of at UM exactly? Fitz is a fine back but hardly durable, and they need both to log heavy carries anyway. That Drake Johnson is terrifying, what with almost no offers because his stats are earned against lousy MI competition.
What other big backs is Dunn competing with at Michigan? The one we turned into a full back? Not sure what big back you speak of....Fitz (not big), Rawls (not big), Hayes (not big, maybe not an RB).
The biggest disappointment with Dunn is the fact that Urban Meyer doesnt even really want him. He just doesnt want him to go to Michigan. He will get used on 3rd and short and goal line situations at Ohio. Other than that he will be obsolete. Michigan will pound him 20-25 carries a game on average.

There are 4 multi-page threads on GBW. ALL of them are about Urban Meyer or OSU recruits.

There are 14 threads on page 1 about OSU, Urban or OSU-UM recruiting battles.

Stay cool and calm...Dunn, Diggs, Diamond etc

stay cool and calm...Dunn, Diggs, Diamond etc

Everybody....deep breath! Take a step back and take a look at things for a minute. Here's what we're looking at. First, Brionte Dunn might stay with OSU...nothing is over yet however. The reality is, he grew up loving OSU, it's probably where his heart is and who can blame a kid for that. It's not like we're losing a recruiting battle for a kid from Florida with OSU. He's from Ohio and has been committed to them forever! If he doesn't come here, the world will not end. Moreover, we did manage to steak Kyle Kalis and land the like of Tom Strobel and Joe Bolden who in most years would have more than likely been Ohio commits...

Secondly, Steffon Diggs. It's been a rocky recruitment from the get go. Grades were an issue as well as some other minor things. Our coaches just went to visit and he bailed to go to Cal for the weekend. Despite the fact that one of his best friends in Countess goes to UM, he still hasn't really shown a ton of love or visited. If i'm a coach, those are all telling signs. Also, he looks to be visiting Ohio this weekend, and of course we'd all hate it if he went there. We have to remember that despite the fact we all know Urban is a snake, 17-18 yr olds most likely have no idea...and he is a sexy hire with a lot of recent success so of course top kids will be interested. So the kid is visiting OSU....doesn't mean he's gonna sign there so relax.

Third is Diamond. Despite the fact many on here are upset he didn't commit to Michigan as he dropped from the womb, he has stuck to his word and his timeline with his recruitment, and he will be visiting us again in January if I recall. Our oline class will be good no matter what, and even if he were to go to OSU, they don't have a good oline class and seeminly will only get two solid guys there, and that is IF they can snag him and turn Dodson.

So everyone be cool and calm....everything will be fine and Ohio will always get good recruits....just be happy we're back to pulling big time recruits as well. The rivalry will continue on as it should with two very good teams.

Sorry for the lengthy post
I really don't know how to feel about this post... It's like you're saying "It's alllll going to be ok, sure our most hated rival might just take our biggest remaining prospects, but don't worry, that's what they do, just stay calm".

Don't get me wrong, you made a solid post and I certainly can't disagree, but can I take the blindfold off before you shoot?
Ya, they mad

Diamond, Dunn, and Diggs all going to OSU this weekend

That is a Triple D that we were all dreaming would happen at Michigan! Meyer is winning the first recruiting battle of UMich v OSU in this new era.
And all 3 have a BIG personal connection to UMich:

UM Freshman BRYANT is a good friend and former teammate of DIAMOND.

UM Freshman COUNTESS is a great friend and former teammate of DIGGS.

UM 2013 commit DYMONTE THOMAS is a blood relative (cousin) of Dunn.

WHAT HAPPENED?????
Kind of surprising they are having such a huge recruiting weekend when they haven't yet announced an Offensive or Defensive Coordinator. Meyer will be telling Dunn he's going to run more power sets, and tell Diggs that he'll be the next Percy Harvin? Kind of conflicting...
UM chose low-key becuase we were denied by Harbaugh...not that it matters but it was UM's intent to create "waves" with a marque hire. That being said, it does not change the fact that Hoke has put together a solid class and great season. That does not, however, make this less frustrating and cause some room for concern. Each of those guys visiting O$U are top shelf Blue Chip recruits. For UM to get back to consistently appearing in BCS games, and contending for NCs they need to recruit this type of talent.
We have to remember that Meyer is a hot item. Him having won recent championships and also having his mug on TV for the past year has these kids all excited. In a couple of years if we keep winning this will even out. He is just the new flavor of the month. These kids are star struck. He has to have a good surrounding cast from other coaches on his staff. If he brings in some good people we need to worry if not I think we will be fine. I don't know how good of a coach he really is by himself. Thats what we need to keep our eye on. Half of these high profile recruits look good on paper but less than 50% ever pan out. Just go through the Scout site and look at the top 100 kids from years past. 75% of them didn't even start. However, about 25% of them ended up being studs.
next thread:
Re: Washington Post article on Diggs

I just vomited in my mouth. The thought of him there is depressing. Hopefully he has a heart to heart w/ Blake and comes to his senses.
Diggs & Dunn on campus together.

I understand that but also take in account Diggs has been elite from the jump and had interest in UM and early on it wasn't reciprocated. UM tries to jump back in the bed and now although I believe has interest, he's interested in other schools. Lesson? Because of the uncertainty w grades, and the ability for the student athlete to turn things around and qualify, NEVER stop recruiting. Ever.

This is karma IMO, but I doubt this staff cares. They have guys who want UM. It's just Diggs is such a great player you'd hope he would be a kid they'd really see about. A missed visit shouldn't be the end of his recruitment. IMO.
Hopefully it isn't. Chesson in the fold or not.

What position will Dunn play under Meyer?

  • where will dunn play at ohio?
  • Poll ends on 12/13/2011
  • Goal line RB
  • 3rd string RB (behind the 165 lb starter)
  • FB
  • LB
  • STs
  • TE (the Goalline blocking one)
  • OG
If he ends up at ohio this is what will happen. If he goes to Michigan it'll be 20-25 carries a game and a 1st round NFL draft pick. GO BLUE!!!

This may be the closest option.
He'll transfer after perhaps his soph year after realizing urb lied to him.
The first half of his freshman year he will play running back and then he will transfer down the road because of decreasing pt. I'm sorry, i know these are young kids, but where are their parents at sometimes? The times the parents want to get involved is when they should stay out of it. The kid has visited UM several times already and Mom hasnt came once...he's obviously interested, how about checking out what we have to offer. Good luck to him wherever he goes as it seems like he is really torn.
You left out waterboy/benchwarmer/keep him away from michigan
Here is what I don't understand. He comes to Michigan and he is all american. If he goes to OSU he is a bench warmer. Why do we want someone who we think is going to be a benchwarmer? Think about your logic in this post!

Dunn is one of the best players in the country. Do you not think that Meyer or hos O coordinator will not find a way to use him? Look at Montee Ball this year. Went form 230 to 210. If this kid is asgood as Scout makes him out to be then he will be a star whereever he goes.
He rides the pine and barely plays. Warren Ball will fit in Meyer's system so much better than Dunn.

Dunn will not be the workhorse he should be. Backs like Dunn NEED a lot of carries to get into a groove and they get stronger as the game goes on. To make him a 10 carry back per game.......he'll never reach his potential.
jassinghum07 wrote: He will probably do alright, maybe 1,000 yds. Perhaps that's good for him considering his love for the school, but OSU's system isn't the best fit.
Maybe 1,000 yards if you add up all 4 years. Meyer has never, ever produced a 1,000 yard back. As a matter of fact, he's never had a back rush more then 14 times per game on average. No joke, look it up.

I also like the line how Dunn isn't a fit for our offense. You know the offense that doesn't exist yet.

I guess what I keep trying to figure out is how they think he fits better in their offense?
